Good hotel. Close to city centre

Used hotel for one night saty whilst taking daughter back to university. Room was clean, comfortable and weel equipped. Hotel was of good standard and staff were attentive. Did not use the restaurant or other facilities in the evening but morning breakfast in the resturant was good. Would use again for a similar trip as there were no problems re access or parking which has been an issue with hotels we've used in the main city centre.

Friendly, helpful staff make all the difference.

I pro: It was just outside the hubbub of the city but just close enough to get a short bus ride into the centre; the bus stop being a stone's throw away.
I contro: A balcony on the family room would've bee handy to sit have a glass of wine & a chat whilst the kids went to sleep. Health & safety restrictions maybe
Posizione: We left our car at the hotel & caught a bus into the city centre. There we visited the Viking Centre, the Railway Museum, York Minster & The Shambles.
We stayed - two adults, two children (7 & 8) - for an overnight stop as well as using the restaurant for our evening meal. Our check-in and out was swift; the family room was of suitable size with a large, sparkling clean bathroom, air conditioning, TV, fridge and coffee/tea making facilities; the restaurant was superb. We were also just down the corridor from the Leisure Club and Swimming Pool, so that was handy to take the boys. Everything was much as I'd expect of a hotel of this rating and I've no real grumbles other than our room was one with an adjoining door to a room we hadn't booked. This would, of course, have been handy if we'd have booked both rooms but, unfortunately, the guests who were staying in the adjoining room (lockable door joining the two rooms) we rather loud and the noise travelling straight through the door, as you'd imagine. This meant our boys were disturbed when getting off to sleep. This wasn't, of course, the fault of the hotel, just something to bare in mind when requesting a room. I must make a special mention of the hotel staff, though: ALL of the staff we came across were such friendly and helpful people (seemingly genuine and un-forced friendliness); the reception staff; the leisure club staff; the restaurant staff; even staff we passed in the corridors. Having stayed in many hotels over the years, this REALLY makes the difference: their mood and attitude reflects on your own mood and attitude, thus we were all happy and amiable.

Terrible experience

Spent 3 nights during weekend, 1 wedding on Friday, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Really noise. No time or staff for guests. The room was dusty, some parts of the bedroom never seen a duster. We had dinner once in the restaurant, the service was slow, food very average, we order ice tea, as on the menu, big mistake, hot ice tea, bitter, terrible. Is so many other bad points, all we can say is, you should tell your normal guests about weddings or parties, to make everyone aware, you should look after all your guests, get more staff, cleanliness is definitely in need, is a lot of money for a 2 star hotel. This was the worst experience we ever had, definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Underwhelming

I pro: super clean rooms and delicious sausages.
I contro: Reception staff... restaurant staff...
Posizione: Location is relatively good. Located on the York racecourse, so lovely views and good walks. Close to main roads in and out of York.
Marriott Hotels are pretty consistent but this one is let down by its customer facing staff. Receptionist on evening we checked in was appalling - rude, unhelpful and dismissive. She was also quick to criticize Expedia as a reservation platform when the room we'd booked was unavailable, blaming the site for misleading customers! Things in favour: exceptional cleanliness of rooms and a cheerful helpful member - and hardworking! housekeeping lady. Breakfast looked pretty grim, but was in actual fact tasty and fresh, and the girl cooking eggs to order was sweet and helpful. Difficult to find a good hotel in York, most are overpriced and underwhelming - and the Marriott is one of them.

I pro: The pool and staff
I contro: Could do with a paint in the corridor,and carpets cleaned. And maybe doors not so heavy that they would not bang all night
Posizione: I am shaw york would of been nice if we got to see more
Hotel was very noisy on our floor doors banging all night. Did not get much rest which I was hoping for after traveling for 7 days round Scotland. As a last night before we returned home I was hoping for a pleasant stay, relax and rest. But instead I was very exhausted from lack of sleep and didn't even get to enjoy York that much as I was just to sleepy to walk round and just wanted to make our way home.

Room with lots of grim stains

I contro: Cleanliness, decor and a more welcoming and a less rushed check in
Posizione: Great pub across the road called the Cross Keys
We had a very disappointing stay. Room decor was very dated with stained shower curtain and heavily stained valance sheet. Breakfast an additional £15 per person and wifi was not included in the room rate.

Nice hotel away from the bustle, good breakfast.

I pro: Nice large rooms overlooking the racecourse.
I contro: The seats in the room were either very low or swivel chairs, something more comfortable would be good, also two of them.
Posizione: Very good location, plenty to do in York and district.
Enjoyed a short break to celebrate my Mother and Fathers Diamond wedding. A bottle of champagne was delivered to their room with compliments of the Hotel, very nice of them .
