Lovely hotel, quiet location but close to centre

Underwhelming

I pro: super clean rooms and delicious sausages.
I contro: Reception staff... restaurant staff...
Posizione: Location is relatively good. Located on the York racecourse, so lovely views and good walks. Close to main roads in and out of York.
Marriott Hotels are pretty consistent but this one is let down by its customer facing staff. Receptionist on evening we checked in was appalling - rude, unhelpful and dismissive. She was also quick to criticize Expedia as a reservation platform when the room we'd booked was unavailable, blaming the site for misleading customers! Things in favour: exceptional cleanliness of rooms and a cheerful helpful member - and hardworking! housekeeping lady. Breakfast looked pretty grim, but was in actual fact tasty and fresh, and the girl cooking eggs to order was sweet and helpful. Difficult to find a good hotel in York, most are overpriced and underwhelming - and the Marriott is one of them.

Comfortable hotel, just a bit too far away from the city, although we walked bit in about half an hour.

I pro: The pool and staff
I contro: Could do with a paint in the corridor,and carpets cleaned. And maybe doors not so heavy that they would not bang all night
Posizione: I am shaw york would of been nice if we got to see more
Hotel was very noisy on our floor doors banging all night. Did not get much rest which I was hoping for after traveling for 7 days round Scotland. As a last night before we returned home I was hoping for a pleasant stay, relax and rest. But instead I was very exhausted from lack of sleep and didn't even get to enjoy York that much as I was just to sleepy to walk round and just wanted to make our way home.

Room with lots of grim stains

Posizione: Great pub across the road called the Cross Keys
We had a very disappointing stay. Room decor was very dated with stained shower curtain and heavily stained valance sheet. Breakfast an additional £15 per person and wifi was not included in the room rate.

Nice hotel away from the bustle, good breakfast.

I pro: Nice large rooms overlooking the racecourse.
I contro: The seats in the room were either very low or swivel chairs, something more comfortable would be good, also two of them.
Posizione: Very good location, plenty to do in York and district.
Enjoyed a short break to celebrate my Mother and Fathers Diamond wedding. A bottle of champagne was delivered to their room with compliments of the Hotel, very nice of them .

Pleasant Stay despite one or two minor irritations

I pro: In the main the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the Restaurant/Bar Manager who was always polite and cheerful.
I contro: See overall experience above re Reception Staff.
Posizione: The Minster is a must; a magnificent building with a wonderful history. An open deck bus tour gives a good overview of the City and its history.
Overall a pleasant hotel in a reasonable location within a short bus ride or 20 minute walk of York town centre. On arrival the receptionist was somewhat patronising in her tone by telling us that our room booking entitled us to complimentary breakfast. At £165 a night I thought that a breakfast was a reasonable expectation rather than a gift from the magnanimous hotel. Although the room was advertised as having bath robes and slippers supplied they were not in the room. On asking at the Reception Desk we were told that such items were not included in our class of room (Superior Guest Room with Garden View). On pointing out that the hotel's website said they were included arrangements were made to supply the robes but no slippers. Apart from a rather overcooked duck with dinner all other aspects of the hotel were very good and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the room serviced to a high standard. Perhaps a 'customer service' refresher to one or two of the Reception Staff would be good, but overall we would recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Dreadful dissapointment

I pro: Were nice young people in the restaurant keen and interesting
I contro: Cleanliness The reception is impressive the rooms are generally tired and obviously they sell rooms they do not have
The room was not what we booked They admitted it They had no rooms as described on our booking available at all Therefore what more do you need to say Room we did eventually have was small and dirty I have never used antibacterial wipes to clean a toilet in a hotel in my life until then!
