Worthwhile

Data di pubblicazione: 31-lug-2013
I contro: Would like to see more done about guests who smoke with their door open on a no-smoking floor.
Location: Piaoying is a ten minute walk from the Bund in one direction, and the lavender line (10) subway in the other -- two stops from Yu Yuan, and with one connection, to People's Square. If you stay there, be sure to carry the address written in Chinese, and perhaps a small diagram, for taxi drivers. There is a convenience story across the street, and several restaurants within a hundred meter walk including a vegetarian restaurant and a Hui-Muslim one -- both being reasonably priced, with not-bad food. The area is quite an active dining area at night. Overall, the part of town is a bit seedy, but never felt unsafe. Staff: The staff were fine; not especially friendly, but attentive to guests' needs as far as I could tell. Check-in and -out went smoothly. Rooms: One side of the hotel faces a large construction site, the other faces south so that you may get a partial view of Pudong, the Bund, and Suzhou Creek which is a block away. My room with two twin beds on the seventh floor had dirty windows, otherwise the view could almost be described as splendid, in an old, worn, downtown urban sense. The interior was a bit dingy, but not at all disgusting. The furniture was clean: tables, chairs, etc provided sufficient space. TV worked. The toilet was clean, as were the counter-tops and shower. I saw one cockroach in five nights staying there -- an acceptable number in my opinion.

Not 5 Star, but Excellent Value for Money!

Data di pubblicazione: 6-apr-2013
I pro: Location & Value. Access to airports and HS Rail can't be beaten!
Posizione: 5 min. walk to the Bund or the subway (#10, Tianting Rd).It's just one stop to Nanjing Rd. E, then #2 to Hongqiao A/P & HS Rail or Pudong Intl. A/P.
Though their English was limited, the staff were helpful. The hotel is older and shows it in places. 1 of the 3 elevators was out of service although this didn't seem to cause a problem to the customers. There's a lot of reconstruction (2013) so don't expect pristine surroundings, but there are numerous small restaurants to try. A convenient store across the street sells soda, iced tea and coffee and there's a fridge in the room

NO INTERNET

Data di pubblicazione: 12-feb-2013
I pro: This hotel is fine for the price normally but this time I was there and the internet went down for the count...4 days and counting now.
I contro: No internet
Posizione: Good location. The Bund is near. Tons of good value shopping near. Tons of street food vendors near. middle of red light district.
No Internet...I have stayed here before and everything worked...I think this time because it was Spring Festival because the internet went down they had no one there who had the power to fix it so it just stayed down. I got out of there to get a hotel with access but last time I checked it was still down (at least 4 days so far.) Internet is very important to have especially in China. There are not tons of options outside of the hotels Internet cafes are scarce to non existent and there are very few free wifi set ups like Mcdonalds or Starbucks that actually work in a reasonable fashion.

No Internet

Data di pubblicazione: 10-feb-2013
The hotel is fine for the price but the internet has been down in the entire hotel for two days now. When I told the guy at the front desk I may want to book another night he gave me a price way higher than expedia and would not match it. I guess I am out of here.

The hotel staff were kind and friendly. English communication was limited. (we wanted to buy tickets to Shanghai Centre ( acrobats) and the hotel got the tickets for us. ( ended up at the Circus instead) Show was terrific but it wasn't the place we thought we had bought tickets. We also went on a 14 hr. tour ( Chinese tour) and spent at least 6-7 hours at factories instead of all of the sights in Suzhou. ( realize now it is better to spend more money and get an English guide)
