“I generally stay in 4–5 star accommodation, and based on the website description and previous reviews, I expected Hay’s Wood Retreat to fall into that category. Unfortunately, the standard of the lodge did not match the ‘luxury’ billing — in my assessment it was closer to a solid 3-star property.
If you’re used to genuinely high-end accommodation, I’d recommend tempering your expectations regardless of the marketing or other reviews you may have read. It’s a perfectly adequate stay, but...

“Although it was a good stay and in an excellent location, the room we stayed in was very dusty and needed a good clean. Bathroom blind was very dusty, exposed wires from a towel rail. Bedroom needed dusting and windows that opened needed cleaning. Confusion over the bill when we left.”
