“A quaint old fashioned style of hotel which I mean in a good way.Friendly and helpful staff along with good meals both for breakfast and in the evening at the Sportsman’s Bar.Wouldn’t hesitate to book again in the future.At the time I booked it was good value as well through Expedia.”

Lovely spot, right by the river, walking distance ( fairly level)to Windermere Lake and boats etc. Eating places also within walking distance, plenty others short drive away( Anglers Arms, Masons Arms). “Superb hotel. Perfect location at the edges of Cartmel. Decent sized rooms and a big building for the number of rooms so lots of space. Breakfast was really great - lots of choices including some unusual options (e.g courgette fritters) all cooked beautifully.”

“What a great find in Winster. The Brown Horse Pub did not disappoint. We stayed in the external King room ( non pet) and it was lovely, clean and tidy with daily housekeeping. The bed was very comfortable and plenty of tea and coffee supplied with biscuits 😀. The private patio was a bonus with great views. “From the first welcome to the final farewell, it was a joy to stay there. Substantive breakfasts, pet friendly, old manor house setting with great views. Good choice of relatively local (less than 10 miles) public houses for evening fare. Already hoping to get back there when next visiting the Lakes, which start only six miles north.”

In inclement weather the Motor Museum is a great place to visit. Exhibits include all manner of classic cars, bicycles, motorcycles, vintage shop memorabilia and a Donald Campbell Bluebird exhibition. There's a large cafe too and all are dog friendly.
