Nice Stay, Great Staff, Some Drawbacks

We stayed as a couple for a long weekend...Thurs through Sunday...as we visited family in the area. Driving in La Jolla/San Diego always a challenge, especially during morning/evening rush hours. But location of hotel was fine.
Very welcoming staff. Lovely wine/food reception on Monday through Thursday. Breakfast buffet very good with covered dishes of eggs and meat, plus fruit, yogurts, cereals, breads, and self-made waffles. Coffee/tea, of course. Area for reception/breakfast was large and comfortable.
There is no onsite restaurant, but there is one right next door at the Hilton Garden. Problem there is that the restaurant is actually a sectioned off part of the entrance lobby. More could be done easily to create more of a defined space. Food was very good.
We had a patio suite with 2 rooms and access to a pool side patio. Furniture was very tired, but bed was good. Room was clean but carpet showed some wear. Free wifi worked well.
I would consider this hotel again, or check out the Hilton Gardens. However, I like some down time in the afternoon and with the pool right outside, it was noisy with families in the pool. I would book a room higher up and away from that area. The pool area has two gas grills for guest use, but one didn't work and the other had such a low flame...even when set on high...that we opted not to use them. Nice idea, though.
