My partner and I stayed for a week in the beautiful Blue Canyon Paradise property. Coming from Chicago, but having visited the area before, we were looking specifically for a quiet place away from the noise, lights, and general bustle of the city. Blue Canyon did not disappoint!
First, the house is beautifully decorated with photos of desert scenes as well as being incredibly appointed with:
o A large, comfy bed
o 2 bathrooms
o Hot Tub!!
o Washer/Dryer
o Dishwasher
o Garage
o 2x TVs
o Outdoor firepit
o Indoor fireplace
o Shady, screened-in porch with hammock
o Outdoor grill
o Games and puzzles
o Area-specific guidebooks
We took advantage of the hot tub daily (it has lights for nighttime soaks), enjoyed grilling out with the easy-to-use gas grill, and falling asleep on the hammock in the breezy, screened-in porch.
Second, the location is perfect! You are between the east and west entrances to Joshua Tree, and the 49 Palm Oasis hiking trail is within five minutes’ drive of the house.
There’s also easy to access Pioneertown, a very close to a large grocery store in 29 Palms, plus multiple cute artisan shops throughout the JT, Yucca Valley, Morongo Basin area. If you want to go a bit further off the beaten path, it is a great home base for trips to Big Bear or Salton Sea.
And, of course, you are only a half hour from Desert Hot Springs and 45 minutes from Palm Springs and all that that area has to offer. BUT because you are in the upper valley in 29 Palms, it is QUIET and DARK, and you have a great view of the mountains AND the stars. In fact, my partner and I watched the sunrise every morning from the front of the property and the sunset from the back, where we then set up the house-provided telescope for some excellent stargazing and moon pictures.
Finally, the owners are AMAZING: very communicative and VERY knowledgeable about the area with multiple excellent recommendations! We would 1000% recommend to anyone and will ourselves be back next year.
