The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return.”

This is a wonderful 800 year old castle with no lift so, if you have walking difficulties, ask for a room on the first floor.
The public rooms are magnificent but the bedrooms, while perfectly comfortable, would benefit from being brought up to date.
Anyway, all in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we shall be sure to return. ”

My only complaint would be that the following morning our exit from the floor our room on was blocked. Both stairs and lift with no direction on how to get out. Had their been a fire goodness only knows if we’d have had time to find an alternative way out in time. ”
