Description

Discover the Venetian art of glassblowing and go behind the scenes to learn the secrets and traditions employed by expert Murano glassblowers. Watch as they create artisan-crafted pieces, ranging from small trinkets to huge chandeliers and lamps.

Visit a real glassware showroom near St Mark’s Square and hear the story of this ancient art that dates back to the Roman Empire. The story takes you back to the 13th century, when the Republic of Venice decided to move all glassmaking furnaces to the nearby island of Murano to protect the city's mainly wooden structures from fires. The craftsmen improved their techniques and began trading with the East, building an important cultural interchange and making Venice famous around the world.

See a master glassblower at work creating some inimitable designs. At the end of the tour, you'll be given a small glass souvenir to commemorate the experience.

Do not give this company your money. Expedia should not be selling this rip-off. Although we arrived solo, we were ushered in with a tour group of 40 people. The demonstration was 60 seconds. Only about 10 seconds of which was narrated in English (the rest in Chinese/French & Italian). The narration was 3 or 4 words "he does X," zero description of glassblowing. I wanted an educational experience that taught about the science, art or history of glassblowing. You can get way more out of a 3 minute YouTube Video with the sound turned off. Then they escort you to the sales room. Its really a free tour for the group tours to get them in the shop buying something. It is NOT a real tour.
