LaPorcilaia Holiday heaven in the heart of Italy Large sunny breathtaking views

The villa is located on the border of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio, surrounded by green hills and meadows and fronted by an unforgettable view of Lake Bolsena. The exquisite apartment has stunning views from every window, with Lake Bolsena to the front and provides an impressive 130 mts, 2 bedrooms - 2 bathrooms of living space, beautifully furnished and comfortable. It is the ultimate Italian experience, an ideal situation for a romantic week away from it all, but is large enough for two couples sharing a holiday or for a family wanting to introduce their children to nature, history, culture, good food and fantastic hours spent on the shores of Lake Bolsena

Our villa is set amongst the hills of Umbria, near Orvieto and has breath-taking views of Lake Bolsena to the front. It is located in between Bolsena, Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio, a fairy-tale hill top hamlet where time has stood still, which has been designated a "unesco world heritage site."
We live in England, but we try to spend as much time at the villa as possible and we plan to move there one day! The ground floor is our holiday apartment and we rent the large luxurious first floor apartment that has its own independent entrance. The apartment is large (130 square metres) and it has been beautifully renovated by using local materials such as cotto, basalt and chestnut wood. It has all the comforts of modern life, home from home, including dish washer, washing machine and free wi fi connection. There are magnificent views from every window of the apartment and the large loggia is ideal for lazy lunches or long suppers or simply to sit and watch the sun sets on Lake Bolsena and the skies on fire, with a cool glass of Orvieto or Est! Est! Est!

If you come in the summer the lake is deliciously clean and warm and it is always possible to find a secluded beach around the lake, safe from the Italian summer bank holiday. The late spring is beautiful and it makes you want to take up painting, when the hills become yellow with the “ginestra” in flower and the fields around the house are turned to purple by the clover and red by the poppies and to all the other vivid colours of the palette by hundreds of wild flower in competition with each other. The autumn is warm and makes you feel good to be alive and sample the fruits of the land, the porcini and truffles, the boar stews, the grapes and the chestnuts. This is one of the best regions for the Italian traditional cuisine, based on fresh local ingredients and what is in season. However it is still good value and the local wine is excellent around five euros per bottle at the restaurant.
The area is in between 3 regions, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio and although we are away from it all in a hidden corner of paradise, we are really close to the main Italian railway and motorway network. This makes the villa an ideal base to explore the wonderful sites in central Italy and visit Rome which is only 50 minutes train ride away. However there is so much to do and see that you will be hard pressed to travel further then half an hour radius if you stay for a week. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Our favorite stay in Italy
We have traveled extensively in Italy, generally for periods of 3-6 weeks. La Porcilaia was our best experience of all. The property itself is a peaceful gem, yet convenient to several towns, the beautiful city of Orvieto, and easy access to Lazio, Tuscany, and Umbria. Bolsena, Civita de Bognoregio, and Montefiascone within 15 minute drive; Rome is just an hour by train from Orvieto. The house was immaculate, nicely furnished, very comfortable beds, and modern bathrooms. We do a lot of cooking, and the kitchen is fully furnished with excellent appliances, cookware, and dishes. But the highlight of our experience was getting to know our delightful hosts Gulia (Italian) and Malcolm (British), who live downstairs. Their friendliness and hospitality were truly exceptional...they provided superb local recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing, were available whenever we wanted, yet left us to ourselves. We had 2 sets of US visitors while there, and they went out of their way to accommodate them. We consider them friends with whom we'll stay in contact. And the sunsets over Lake Bolsena from our loggia every evening were truly unforgettable.

A wonderful holiday
If you like peace, quiet, wildlife & wonderful views, you'll love this place. The farmhouse has been sympathetically restored, thanks to the hard work & determination of the lovely owners. They were keen to make sure we were comfortable & had everything we needed but respected our privacy. My husband was ill on the drive from the UK & they could not have done more to assist us, for which we were very grateful. The accommodation was perfect for us. We enjoy cooking or barbecuing & this house gave us space & a variety of places to eat. When inside, there is a lovely view of the lake from the dining table. Both bathrooms have good quality fixtures & the kitchen had all the appliances we needed. Although the house is secluded, there are numerous beautiful towns & villages to visit within short driving distances. Bolsena, Civita di Bagnoregio, Monetfiascone, Orvieto, all lovely to explore. Having visited Italy several times in the past, this area was new to us & it did not disappoint. It is quieter than the bigger lake areas but provides plenty of opportunities for shopping & eating out. Malcolm & Giulia are a mine of information and will give you plenty of advice on places to visit should you wish. There is a lovely walk down the lane, from which you may see Hoopoes, Bee Eaters, Jays & the sheep with their beautiful sounding bells, their shepherd & adorable sheepdogs. How lucky are you to live in this lovely property & how lucky are we that you allow us to share it.

A perfect stay with a view of Lago Bolsena
Everything about this property was perfect for us. Located in a lovely country side is this idyllic villa. It is very private, with spottings of foxes and pheasant and lots of birds. To the west is a view of Lago Bolsena, just right to highlight spectacular sunsets. There are easy drives to surrounding charming villages, and of course to 0rvieto. One week there was not enough. We will need to return soon.

Floating days
Very warm welcome from Giuglia and Malcolm. They were very happy to see their old friend David from Australia again. This gave hope for good conversations. LaPorcilaia is very quiet, hardly anything to hear except nature. Wonderful view of the lake, from the toilet also of the heroes of work. Enjoy!

Italian countryside
Giulia and Malcolm were great hosts. The villa was as described, and conveniently located to Tuscany and Umbria. We enjoyed our stay there at the villa. One thing to be cautious of; if you rent the apartment during cold weather you will have to pay and additional fee of 3 Euros per hour to run the heater. This information was not given to us in advance, and when we asked the host about it we were told that due to the low rental fee the additional cost of running the heater was necessary. This is understandable, but that is important information that should be relayed to prospective tenants in advance. Overall though, we had a very pleasant enjoyable stay there, and we appreciated the info from our hosts concerning local places to visit and things to do.

An excellent property, somewhat isolated, but never-the-less in a stunning location. Our hosts were most welcoming and assisted us throughout our stay.

LaPorcilaia: A perfect home with wonderful hosts.
Giulia and Malcolm are wonderful hosts, and their home is simply lovely. Giulia responds to contacts very quickly. She is Italian/English and Malcolm is English, which helps people like us who do not speak Italian. The couple are very welcoming, and provide many guide, history and activity notes to ensure you make the most of the fabulous location. A car is essential. Their huge home is completely renovated and beautifully furnished. It has every item you could want, and everything works perfectly. The peaceful location is a wonderful base to explore the amazing 'hill towns' of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. It is also a wonderful place to just sit on the balcony and relax in the evenings, and enjoy the fabulous food and wine that you can buy in the markets of the towns nearby, whilst watching the farmers working away in the distance. We have stayed in many VRBO properties throughout the world: a few equal to but none better than LaPorcilaia.

Perfect for many reasons
This villa is a slice of heaven. It is perfect. Plenty of room (1400 sq ft) and very accommodating for 2 couples. The kitchen is well equipped and had plenty of room. The view of the lake and countryside is breathtaking. The charm of the sheep and their pleasurable bells provided our morning concerto. We toured the countryside for a month and enjoyed every day. Being halfway between Rome and Florence, the location is perfect. We found the villa reasonable enough that we didn’t hesitate to take overnight stays at the coast and Florence with the benefit of just an overnight bag. All of this said, the place, the view, the countryside is all secondary to the gracious host Malcolm and Giulia. Their kindness, generosity, and expertise was appreciated immensely. It was a trip of a lifetime.
