GPS coordinates: 40.191351, -8.387995. The car park is located on the old road from Coimbra to Penacova (N110), just at the entrance to the village of Torres do Mondego, on the side of Coimbra. You can also type O Pioneiro Do Mondego. Instructions coming from the South (Lisbon): Exit the A1 at the exit 11 of Condeixa/Tomar. Follow the IC2/IC3 to Coimbra for 6.7 km. Cross the Rainha Santa Isabel bridge. Follow EN17, VN Poiares @ the bridge. Follow EN110, Penacova @ the roundabout of Portela. Continue for 1.1 km, the entrance gate is on your right.

Cosa puoi aspettarti

Dopo aver incontrato la tua guida al mattino, verrai trasportato a Penacova e ti verrà fornita l'attrezzatura da kayak e alcune istruzioni. Poi, parti dalla diga di Carvoeira per un tour in kayak della lunghezza totale di 18 km (11 miglia).

Attraverserai in kayak la valle naturale del fiume Mondego, circondata da estese foreste. Scendendo lungo il fiume, passerai accanto ai piccoli villaggi di Ronqueira, Rebordosa, Louredo, Foz do Caneiro e Casal.

Questa parte del fiume è ricca di piccole spiagge dove puoi fermarti per un picnic o fare una nuotata. Sulla spiaggia fluviale di Palheiros troverai un piccolo bar dove potrai acquistare un gelato o una birra fresca.

Il fiume ha solitamente una corrente leggera, che rende il kayak facile e accessibile a tutte le età. Termina a Torres do Mondego, dopo 3-4 ore di kayak e pause lungo il percorso. L'arrivo è previsto tra le 15.00 e le 17.00.

GPS coordinates: 40.259682, -8.278627 Instructions from the IP3 - Coimbra-Viseu: Take the second exit of Penacova. Follow towards the Mondego river (do not enter the village of Penacova). Pass the bridge over the Mondego at ‘Ponte’ and turn to you right. Pass the village of ‘Carvoeira’. At the junction with indication 'Travasso' turn right. Reaching the river, turn to the right. Follow 200m (dirt road) to the dam.

    • The meeting point is next to the nautical club of Coimbra and the "Pedro and Ines" footbridge on the left bank of the river, opposite the city of Coimbra. There is a public and free car and caravan park, where you can leave your cars. We kindly ask you to arrive 15 minutes before the pick up (pick up at 9.45 AM). GPS coordinates: 40.200340, -8.429353 Instructions from Lisbon: Exit the A1 at the Exit (11) of Condeixa/Tomar. Follow the IC2/IC3 to Coimbra for 6.7 km. Do not cross the river at the Rainha Santa Isabel bridge; follow Sta. Clara. At the first roundabout after the bridge take the first exit (Ceira). Turn immediately left (towards Parque Verde/Exploratorio). After the Exploratorio, the parking lot can be found next to the swimming pool.
