Description

Spend the day exploring Mostar and Medjugorje, Bosnian cities with dual religious histories. Mostar is named for its famous bridge—a powerful example of Islamic architecture—and Medjugorje became a site for Catholic pilgrimage after the Virgin Mary appeared to 6 children in 1981.

Get picked up from Split or Trogir and travel across the border to enter Bosnia. Drive through rolling countryside and mountainous terrain before arriving in Mostar, a city divided between Muslim and Christian communities by the Neretva River. Walk around the city, visiting the Old Bazaar and the city's mosque before arriving at the Old Bridge.

In the 16th century, the Ottomans constructed Stari Most (Old Bridge)—the city's namesake—to connect the 2 halves of the city. It was destroyed in 1993 during the Croat–Bosniak War, but it was rebuilt and reopened in 2004. Its distinctive arch stands today as a prominent example of Islamic bridge architecture.

Continue to Medjugorje, a beautiful and peaceful town that become famous after 6 children began reporting daily apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The visions reportedly included 9 secrets and lifelong prayer missions to end sickness. Because of these sightings, the town has become a popular site of pilgrimage for Catholics around the world. Hike to Mount Apparition, where the Virgin Mary supposedly appeared, before returning to Split or Trogir.

The trip was worthwhile. Our tour guide Miele was very professional attentive and informative. The city of Mostar was lovely full of hitoey and culture. Great pictures great food. An experience I won’t forget. Our tour guide in Mostar was wonderful as seem I just don’t remember her name. Our stop to the holy site in medjugorie was extraordinary. There were many Catholics on our bus so Miele extra attention to gets us as close as possible was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this trip

The first part pf the trip was fine and the local Croatian guide was very informative and expressed a great love for her country. She also has a cheery personality. Unfortunately the local guide in Mostar did not have the same skills. She spoke rapidly and despite being asked to slow down she continued to gabble. When we arrived at the beach under the bridge I waited to see the man jump. I was abandoned by the guide and when I went looking for the group I could not find them. I had no choice but to return to the meeting point and wait there. I learned from other group members that they had also been abandoned at the first restaurant over the bridge, So a tour that should have lasted one hour and fifteen minutes was over in thirty. Thankfully Medlugorje was worthwhile.

This really was excellent. When we booked it I couldn’t find any reviews on Expedia, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Our driver was very friendly and the minibus was excellent. The tour in Mostar was by a different guide that we met there and she was excellent also. She was born in so remembers the war so her knowledge was second to none. Thanks again from Steven and Liz!!
