Description

Travel through the beautiful Tuscan countryside to Pisa on this half-day tour from Florence. Explore the architectural magnificence of the Piazza dei Miracoli—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pose for photos with the iconic Leaning Tower, and learn about the construction of this famous monument.

Meet your guide in the centre of Florence and board a comfortable coach for the ride out of the city. Pass through the rolling countryside of Tuscany on your way to Pisa. Cross over the slow-moving waters of the Arno to reach the Piazza dei Miracoli, a grassy square dominated by 4 sacred edifices built beginning in the 11th century. Each of these beautiful white marble buildings symbolises an aspect of the human experience—the Baptistery represents birth, the Monumental Cemetery is death, and the Cathedral is the symbol of life.

The fourth—and most famous—structure in the plaza is the incredible Leaning Tower, the campanile (bell tower) of the complex. Just 5 years after construction of the tower began, weak soil and a poor foundation led the building to sink on the south side. Learn how construction continued for nearly 2 centuries, and hear what steps were taken to account for the tower's unavoidable lean. After stepping inside the cathedral to admire its black-and-white marble interior and gilded dome, spend some free time roaming around the city before the return ride to Florence.

Driver did not turn heat on until we were almost in Pisa and it was freezing on the bus. Also, at the rest break everyone was back on the bus and the guide had to go look for the driver. Guide was average but driver was awful.

I really enjoyed the half day city tour - always wanted to see Leaning tower of Pisa. Finding the meeting point was a little tough but not really a complain. The only thing I would recommend is they should allow people to have light snacks inside the bus. They made an announcement no food allowed before we stared for PISA.

Our first guide was good in that he was able to get us tickets to climb Pisa, which was not included. However, during the guided tour, we were passed to another guide who did not know enough about the history and architecture. My forever comparison is to our excellent tour guide in Rome at the Vatican. This was a nice experience, but could have been so much better.
