Miralaghi was the highlight of our trip! After separately traveling throughout other parts of Italy, the villa was the perfect size for us to meet up with another small family, even with two small babies. The villa had everything, including several amenities that I have never seen in other Italian rentals (a washer AND a dryer! a dishwasher!) that helped make our visit so relaxing. There are several local restaurants and towns nearby that were a joy to visit, including La Loggetta, where I had one of the best meals of my entire trip ... and enjoyed a panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside while we were at it. The wine towns are easily accessible, and we were able to visit Montepulchiano and Montechello in the same day.
More importantly, we were very interested in participating in a truffle hunt in the region, but the only ones we could find were hours away and very expensive. After asking Maria (who goes by Mausi) if she had any suggestions on a tour for us, she promptly informed us that her very own property sports a plethora of truffles and that she would organize a hunt for us! We met Stefano, her hunting guard, and Pigna - an adorable wire-haired terrier named after the Tuscan pine cone, and had a very successful hunt, filled with information about the property, truffles, Italy in general, you name it. Afterward, Mausi arranged for one of her long-time friends to cook a traditional Tuscan meal with us using all the truffles we had found ... featuring wild boar that was hunted from nearby (talk about locally sourced!), in addition to pasta, bruschetta, dessert, wine, prosciutto, and more. The meal was so delicious, and we learned so much about traditional Tuscan cuisine in the process. If you have a desire for your trip, all you have to do is ask ... Mausi will make it happen herself, or she will find someone who can. She helped make our stay everything we could have imagined. Thank you Mausi, and thanks to Stefano, Agnese and Pigna!! We wish we could have stayed twice as long!
