Loved this hotel. It exceeded our expectations. My husband and I stayed 1 night and had dinner and drinks. Steaks were exceptional, and they had a nice outside patio to sit and drink as well as a lounge. The gift shop had some beautiful jewelry and gifts. The room is small but very clean and comfortable. Want to stay again when we travel that direction in the future.

I really enjoyed my stay in the Doris Day room. The room was small, but very comfortable. The staff - every single one I encountered - were friendly and helpful. They brought me a fan (i have a bit of an addiction to fan noise to sleep by.) The restaurant on property was great and it was all very easy to access from I40, not to mention considerably less expensive than the Best Western , which sits practically in the parking lot of El Rancho. I enjoyed the water wheel in the dining room and the sweet selection and reasonable prices in the gift shop.

Vintage hotel with limited amenities like no a/c, and tiny rooms but also lots of charm in style of old west and Hollywood icons who stayed there when shooting movies in the area. Dozens of autographed photos on walls of two story lobby plus attached restaurant and gift shop. Quirky but different than your usual inns if you can put up with room bathroom about the size of a restroom on an airplane

Quaint, quiet and most of all, very comfortable beds. Pictures abound the walls of celebs that have visited the El Rancho and to think I stayed in the same hotel that many of them had at one time. They had a fantastic gift shop there, a nice bar and a great restaurant on site. Highly recommended.

Would have been nice to know that we would not be staying in the original hotel but was put in a room in the hotel across from the El Rancho. Should have been given the choice when we reserved the room.

This is a wonderful, nostalgic property, full of mementos and photos from the era when Western movies were filmed in the area and the stars used the hotel as their home base. It has been well and creatively modernized. The restaurant has great service and the food is so good, that it attracts the local people as well as the hotel guests. We loved our stay at the Hotel el Rancho.

Our first time here and I’m already planning my return. There were some questionable people in the parking lot, and with no ac right now needed to open the windows, which have no screens. But the charm ambiance, and history are amazing! We had dinner in the dining room - best tamales I’ve ever had. Timing was off though - dinner came out one minute after appetizers, then dessert and check took quite a bit of time. Room is cozy, by which I mean, don’t over-imbibe because you will definitely hurt yourself in the tiny bathroom. Still, it was a joy to walk around the 2nd floor balcony, looking at the pictures on the wall. Great gift shop too!

We checked into a "king" room which was very small. We tried to turn the TV (which was not hung straight) on with the remote and it would not turn on. Tried calling the desk and the phone rung 25 times (no exaggeration) before hanging up. Waited awhile and tried again and the clerk did pick up. She came to the room with another remote which did not work either. Finally, she gave up and told me to operate it manually. Thats fine but the volume also did not work. Next was the bathroom issue. I do understand that this is an older property, but the bathroom is a converted closet, and the walk-in shower is larger than the rest of the room with the sink & bowl (no lid on the seat). You had to sideways shuffle out of the room to turn around and use either. The writing desk which I needed to work on had four wobbly legs and totally useless. The dining experience was another disappointment. My wife ordered green Chile stew and it was so loaded with cilantro & Mexican oregano that it was not edible, and spilled over the edge of the bowl. My enchilada's arrived only "luke warm", the second try arrived also luke warm. At that point I ate it the way it was. I paid in cash. The server returned with my change. When I looked at it, I realized that she did not drop the coin but only the cash. When questioned about it she said that most people don't want the coin so she rounded it down and offered to give me the coin. I explained that she needs to return all change. Not pleased. There's more .

So glad they are refurbishing this hotel. Was fun to see the building and style of yesteryear.
