Paradise found!
Dale’s Vintage Farmhouse was just perfect. We stayed 8 days, using the farmhouse as our home base while we enjoyed the island. Our last day we rested at the farmhouse, just savoring the sights and sounds. Fresh squeezed oj, coquis chirping, gentle breezes blowing. We will truly miss this place.

Unique Experience!
My husband and I loved our stay in this old farmhouse. The owners have made great attempts to renovate the buildings without taking the feeling of being transported to a previous time when Hawaii was more rural and unexplored. The outside gardens are just fantastic! Take the time to enjoy them if you chose to go.

Peaceful place to relax and enjoy! “Vintage” describes perfectly with a house of character and comfort. Lots of space and quiet atmosphere. Amazing botanical garden to visit. Area has lots of sun but still cool. Dale was very hospitable and interesting to talk to about property and gardens. Well worth the stay and will return!

Very cute, and great location!
The host did a wonderful job of collecting and curating vintage pieces to create a "grandma's farmhouse" kind of vibe. Felt just like staying at my grandparents' cabin growing up. However, as with many old farmhouses, the different levels of floor did make it a little difficult to get around as a disabled person. Just go slowly, and hold onto the nearest wall. Otherwise, a comfortable stay in a serene location. Close enough to Honokaa to grab a morning malasada (or three) at Tex's Drive-In, or head over to Waimea or Hilo for shopping.

Old Style Island Home
The Grounds are so beautifully landscaped by the owner and mindfully cared for by Dale and her husband. I enjoyed picking guavas from a guava tree in yard and enjoying it for breakfast! Plus I was given fresh avacados!

Amazing stay at the Vintage Farmhouse
Oh my goodness I cannot say enough good things about Dale and Ed’s Vintage Farmhouse. It is simply perfection in every way. From the absolutely gorgeous gardens surrounding the house to the incredibly charming vintage decor inside, this rental was truly wonderful. We so enjoyed strolling through the gardens, showering in the outdoor shower, eating meals on the deck, playing games in the cozy living area in the evenings, and falling asleep to the songs of the frogs. Magical! We hope to have an opportunity to come back one day and will absolutely recommend the farmhouse to friends and family!

Relaxing, tranquil, unique and beautiful!
My family of 4 from San Diego (daughters ages 19, 16) thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Vintage Farmhouse. For three nights we cooked both breakfast and dinner and played card games. In the morning we walked the grounds and took morning walks up to the state park before our daily outings to waterfalls and volcano. Dale has thought of every detail. There is some much to see on the grounds with the plants and animals. We loved the outdoor shower and barbecuing on the charcoal grill. Amazing unique experience to get away and unplug. We loved it. Our girls left behind their swimsuits and Dale mailed them home and were here when we arrived home. I highly recommend booking this place. Mahalo for sharing your home!

Perfect Hawaiian Retreat
Our stay at the vintage farmhouse was memorable! The house and botanical gardens were outstanding, with every detail throughout a reminder that we were there to relax, unwind, and reconnect with nature and each other. It’s location near Kalopa State Park and Forest Preserve made us feel as if it we were stepping back in time and experiencing Hawaii before tourism was an industry. The Vintage Farmhouse is a perfect Hawaiian Retreat.

A lovely retreat near Honoka'a
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vintage Farmhouse. Communication with the owner was easy, and she was very attentive. Dale gave us a tour of the gardens, which my husband and I appreciated very much. The home is very well equipped. It had everything that we could have needed. Fresh flowers were throughout the home when we arrived. The location is rural and quiet. The many beautiful plants on the property create a secluded oasis. Our college age son stayed in the birdhouse, and he really enjoyed that space as well. We felt this was a perfect place for us to stay for exploring the northern and eastern parts of the island. It also wasn't too far of a drive to get to sand beaches like Hapuna and Spencer's beach. Thank you, Dale. We truly enjoyed our stay.

We loved the house and the garden. It was beautiful, well organized and had everything we needed. The outdoor shower with hanging orchids and river stones was heavenly. Rainforest farmhouse
Very clean; comfy beds; fun to shower outside; fell asleep to the frogs; little traffic; within walking distance of the state recreation area; we picked oranges for breakfast. It is a bit of a haul up the mountain but then you have peace and quiet! We could come back! The communication from the hosts was helpful and timely.

Wonderful!
We loved our stay in Dale and Ed's house. This is a very special place. We enjoyed hiking in Kalopa Forest and exploring Honokaa area. The house is really lovely and lovingly furnished and cared for. We cooked dinner in the well equipped kitchen both nights. Glad that we had a tour of Dale's wonderful and magical garden!

absolutely stunning
We just came back From the loveliest stay. we were in Hawaii for nine days and this was our favorite home. The grounds are beautiful it was really fun to walk around the garden, the outdoor showers are amazing, the beds were very comfortable we were a group of four so we also used the birdhouse bedroom. We could see goats from our bed. everything you could need was provided including a very sweet welcome package, we cooked breakfast and dinner there because we didn’t want to leave. The town is great, if you were there on a Sunday there was a great farmers market with live music about five minutes away, it feels very local and welcoming. I would definitely suggest this place especially if you love nature and are willing to go a little bit off the beaten path. We found cane toads and other little frogs in the garden, my five year old and my 82-year-old were both so happy here.

So lush and beautiful!
What a great experience! This place is so unique and is a real treat for those who are looking for a retreatesque experience. Secluded in the rainforest, falling asleep to the sounds of frogs and birds (and rain!) The colors, textiles and comforting items…and the outdoor bathrooms! Pretty magical. Our toddler especially loved it, exploring the flowers and eating fresh tangerines everyday! Our father in law loved sleeping in the birdhouse casita, too! The local towns, Honokaa and Waimea, are great with the latter one offering more options. Definitely book this place for a unique experience!

WOW, The Farmhouse exceeded all of our expectations. Very rare find in a unique section of Hawaii
Dale has thought of every little detail that made our 10 days magical. She has taken great pride in renovating this jewel in the jungle, down to the details that add comfort and ease. The gardens, fruit trees and nearby State Park create an environment of pure bliss.

The perfect peaceful retreat
I can't say enough about how perfectly thoughtful every little touch was in the vintage farmhouse. From the beautiful gardens to the well-appointed outdoor spaces, the kitchen that had everything we needed and the comfortable living and bedroom areas with plenty of windows that made it feel like sleeping in the forest... this house delivered on the perfect restful, slow-paced vacation. We did plenty of sightseeing, snorkeling, and learning around the island, but we also kind of never wanted to leave "home." If you're looking to stay in the area and for that simple life vibe, you cannot do better than this. I hope to be back.

Stop looking and book now! We LOVED every minute of our stay at Dale’s Farmhouse. We rented both the main house and the bird house for our family of four (two adults and two teen agers) and had more than enough space: three bathrooms (!!), three beds, huge beautiful kitchen, comfy living and dining room, and gardens and outdoor space that will take your breath away. After two nights, we didn’t want to leave and are already strategizing a return…

Amazing Jungle Getaway
We had the most magical experience staying at this property in Honoka’a. It exceeded our expectations in almost all aspects. Dale provided almost everything you could need at the property to have a pleasant stay. We loved everything about this place. Highly recommend experiencing the island here. Kalopa was surreal walking through the forest, although there is no waterfall in kalopa state park as we came to find out. Honoka’a town is small quaint and beautiful. The whole Hamakua coast is just a wonderful area to experience the islands. Thank you again!

Wonderful little slice of heaven
What an amazing experience. There really are no words. This place was perfect for all of us, 2 adults and our kids (4 and 8). At one point we didn’t see the kids for nearly an hour, though we could hear them just outside hunting for frogs. Some may find the frogs noisy, but to us, they were a lullaby. The home itself is perfect in every way. Little touches here and there make it feel special. The entire property is incredible! We wish we could stay longer, but we will be back!

An amazing stay in paradise
Wow! What an amazing stay my wife and I had at Dale's place, The Vintage Farmhouse. Everything about our stay was top tier. Dale is definitely the "hostess with the mostess". We had everything we possibly could ask for at our fingertips in this beautiful farmhouse. The number of windows overlooking the well manicured grounds was absolutely stunning. There were so many plants to look at and admire. Such a beautiful area and the weather was absolutely perfect. Typically 74 for a high and 63 for a low. We highly recommend this property for anyone who wants to see a different part of the Big Island of Hawaii. We will definitely be coming back again.

Lovely little farmhouse and gardens
This was an absolutely lovely place to stay. the house itself is clean and comfortable, and the attention to detail and thoughtful touches are above and beyond expectations. I loved the wooden floors and multiple indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and my sister loved the vintage color schemes. The setting is tranquil, beautiful and contains a bounty of botanicals including many fruit trees. Walking distance to hiking trails in Kalopa State Park. We also loved the outdoor bathrooms with their large, smooth volcanic stones and plants. You'll be forgiven if when you first see the outdoor shower you think it's a meditation space :) The kitchen is well-equipped and Dale will took care of all our needs and checked in by text to make sure we were comfortable. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Charming Hideaway
We absolutely LOVED the vintage farmhouse. We only wish we had more time to spend there. Dale is a spectacular host and had done an incredible job curating an absolutely charming and stylish property. We were blown away by how quaint and stylized everything was. It was a great place to relax. We loved the surrounding botanical garden and all of the amazing wild life that serranades you at night. A truly one of a kind experience. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMED - especially if you are looking to unplug and unwind.

Beautiful house
This place was stunning - I wanted to move in. It has been beautifully restored and decorated with high attention to detail, with even the dishes matching the color scheme of the kitchen and customized coffee mugs. The outdoor shower was a lovely experience and I especially enjoyed sitting on the deck in the sun, or curling up in the window seat listening to the rain. It's located up a windy road, but the drive is beautiful and it's only minutes from downtown Honoka'a. The property has a beautiful botanical garden to stroll through, and you can even pick your own fruit. There is a state park just up the street (we walked there), and the Waipio valley, Waimea, various waterfalls, and ziplining options are all within about 30 minutes - and the house has plenty of books and brochures with ideas for things to do. It can get chilly at night, but plenty of blankets and a space heater are provided. We didn't bother with the wood stove, but that was also an option. The host was extremely helpful and accommodating, and even welcomed us with fresh fruit from the garden and some local treats. I hope to return some day!

Truly vintage farmhouse
The Vintage Farmhouse was true to it's name and full of charm in every way from the fixtures, furniture and appliances. The home fit in perfectly with its setting in the up country of the Big Island north coast. In addition to the great, spacious interior, well appointed kitchen for a vacation stay, comfortable bedroom and awesome outdoor shower, the outdoor garden was a beautiful tropical garden with tons of variety. Because the house was near Honokaa town, it was a great location from which to explore both the Hilo side as well as the North Kohala coast of the Big Island. Also, Dale, the owner, has many thoughtful amenities including beach towels and chairs, flashlights, umbrellas and insect repellent if needed. There is even an outdoor sink for rinsing off sandy items. I felt well rested and was lulled to sleep easily to the sound of the coqui frogs. The morning roosters did crow early but did not affect my slumber. My husband, however, did awaken easily due to their calls. But we would not hesitate to stay here again if we find ourselves on the Big Island in the future.

Relaxing getaway
Old fashioned relaxation was the highlight! Beautiful flowers to enjoy and the lovely Kalopa State Park is a short walk up the hill past horses and guava trees. It’s a 5 minute drive into Honokaa for groceries and cafes, a 30 minute drive to Waimea for more excitement, and 45 minutes to Hapuna Beach. Gorgeous views along the way.

Beautiful property with daily fresh fruit
Amazing space that was off the beaten path but still close enough to downtown Honokaa to access restaurants and markets. The hosts are super responsive, kind, and friendly, and there is a beautiful botanical garden on the property from which you can eat fresh fruit each day. The outdoor showers were an amazing detail of the property that we loved. There were plenty of scenic spots nearby and we wished we had more days to spend exploring the area. We all hope to return some day!

Heaven is in Honoka'a
What can I say about this gem? As I told Dale upon our arrival, this farmhouse is EVERYTHING. My family of 3 traveled to the Big Island to celebrate the end of my 8-year-old son's 3-year course of chemotherapy. We wanted an isolated, peaceful, special place to stay, but a spot that would also make outings in both Kona and Hilo easy, and we found exactly that at Dale and Ed's vintage farmhouse. The bedroom...all the windows looking out at SO MUCH GREEN and sun/rain depending on the hour of the day...it was just an incredible room. I particularly enjoyed cozying up on the bed to read, though it was hard to stay awake! The kitchen was perfectly equipped with all the items you need to cook in-house after hitting the local farmer's markets and grocery stores. The outdoor shower was pure decadence! The indoor bathroom and tub were also wonderful. The dining area and living room were both very cozy, and there was even I spot for me to do all the work I had hoped to leave back at home! Outdoor amenities were also top notch. The property was beautifully manicured with so many places to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The beach supplies Dale and Ed stashed in the carport - chairs, an umbrella, snorkeling gear, sunscreen, coolers - also came in handy throughout the trip. I really can't say enough about how much enjoyed staying here. We've been fortunate enough to make several trips to the island now and stayed in some truly wonderful spots run by excellent hosts and wonderful human beings, but this is definitely the one we intend to book when we get the chance to return to Hawaii. Here's hoping it won't be all booked up when we get the chance!

Beautiful cottage in amazing location
The attention to detail in the Vintage Farmhouse results in a lovely setting for a stay in this quiet area of the Big Island. The gardens surrounding the house are magical! The location of the house is peaceful and quiet, but many activites are nearby. Dale is available for questions about activities but is not intrusive. We enjoyed our stay very much and are looking forward to returning for a longer stay in the future!

As a professional designer myself, I really enjoyed Dale’s attention to detail all over the property; inside and out. Having worked in the Big Island years ago, this was a chance to enjoy a slice of island life with our kids. A true gem.
