This isn't a very helpful review to those reading it... This guest thought he was too tall for our top bunks and had no other option in the dorm room available to him, and didn't want to pay for a private room. We don't reserve bunks and would expect someone tall to look at photos and descriptions carefully if this may be a problem for them.

Data and phone line aren't anything that we can control, sorry that our remote location meant that your phone didn't work well enough. Our wifi is fine, we use starlink, sorry if you had problems using it.

Thanks for your review Wasif. Our wifi is usually quite good, we use starlink so occasionally the satellites are calibrating which affects it. Most guests don't come to such a location for the wifi though ;)

Thanks for your review Rob. The ensuite room is a double bed. We do have other rooms with bigger beds if preferred. Our restaurant offerings are freshly made with local, organic ingredients to provide quality meals full of nutrients.

Thanks for your review Richard. Expedia automatically shows distance by air, we have asked many times for this to be changed. There is 9kms of unsealed road to reach us. For those not wishing to dine with us we have a self-catering kitchen that they can use.

We don't have any notes regarding this guest, but they did book the cheapest room, which is next to the kitchen. We have guests who have a great time staying there, and some who don't. Our location also isn't for everyone. We try to look after our guests, but need to know while they're on site if there's anything we can do to improve their stay.

We are not in the habit of policing children having fun in the middle of the afternoon, had this been an issue at night we would come and speak with relevant parties. This is a family friendly site, we don't pretend otherwise. Often the area is extremely peaceful and quiet, however travelling between Christmas and the end of January does usually mean there are lots of people around, especially children. For a more private space our EcoScapes are removed from the rest of the site and ideal for couples. Our Wilderness rooms are old, but we keep them clean and well maintained. The bathrooms are cleaned every day but we don't have the capacity to do this more than once, so have to trust that guests will respect one another and look after the spaces as they use them. Words and names can be interpreted in different ways, many people from Queenstown come to stay with us as a break from town, which is their way of retreating in nature. Property websites and photos are a much better way of understanding what you're booking.

Our hostel rooms were built in the 1970s (long before our time here) and are regularly deep cleaned, checked and maintained e.g. fresh paint. The photos of our rooms online accurately reflect what we offer, outdated is a matter of opinion that we would disagree with given that we replace items often due to usage. Unfortunately we have no control over sandflies but do provide insect repellent for restaurant guests and sell it in our shop, as well as fly screens over windows, we do what we can. Our view has been called many things but nice would be an understatement for quite a few people...

We clean the lodge everyday. After asking the guest for feedback when they mentioned this they were unable to provide any. Occasionally we do have issues with the showers, given our remote location situations like this occur, we apologise for the inconvenience but we can't always fix things as quickly as we'd like. We regularly check that there is enough equipment in the kitchen for the number of people we can accommodate, if it so happens that the kitchen is busy this is not something we can control, ours is the usual size for a hostel kitchen and larger than many. We've checked the heater, it works. If guests don't draw attention to issues and give us a chance to help them then there's not a lot we can do. Given the number of positive reviews we have in many places on the internet I think you'll find most people enjoy their time with us, sorry you did not but I suspect you would have been happier in Queenstown and this was not the right location for you.

Same guests as the other 1 star rating I've responded to, not sure why they've felt it necessary to write 2 reviews. The guests did indeed check out after 1 night, their room has been reviewed by the owners and no issues were found. Suspect guests would have been happier in actual hotel rather than hostel.
