It’s our go to hotel near Newcastle close to metro 10 mins to centre Bar and food is good Plenty of other places to eat within walking distance Staff are helpful and pleasant Breakfast cooked to order and very good quality

Very dated hotel that at best is average. I worked here 30 years ago and it’s barely changed since then. Definitely expect more these days, even simple things like sockets next to the bed and a fan in the bathroom!

took it for a few hours sleep pre flight , decent hotel for a few hours wouldnt recommend whole time , its advertised near the airport , but only way to get to airport is a 30 pounds taxi

We use The Gibside every time we come up to the North East. It’s close by where we meet friends for food and drink. The price we pay is always competitive. The staff are always friendly. Bar food and breakfast always spot on.

It’s my go to hotel when we are in the Newcastle area lots of food options in Whickham The hotel has its own bar with food which is good Easy access to metro centre and the road network

Hotel staff very helpful friendly and respectful . Clean and comfy room. However the bathtub/shower was awkward and unsafe for accessability. Safe did not work in spite of staffs best efforts. Dining staff in both venues excellent as were the meals.

Convenient location for what we needed . No food after 6pm on a Sunday was disappointing. Lighting in rooms is very gloomy . Bath plug didn’t work . Staff were very friendly and helpful

Nov. 2023 4-night Stay
Stayed overnight on a B&B basis for 4 nights to assist with a house move. Very nice hotel and super friendly and very polite staff. Great breakfasts. A very pleasant stay. Highly recpmmended. Many thanks.

Wouldn’t stay again not a good experience
We stayed here on a visit to see family over the weekend and I have to say it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Room - The room wasn’t clean - we both got covered in bites! Room was really dusty. Toilet was blocked. Plug in bath didn’t work, wouldn’t open to let water out so had to force plug out. Safe didn’t work Staff- we had a maintenance man just walk in whilst we were in bed in the room, luckily I wasn’t fresh out shower or getting ready as was embarrassing!!! Didn’t knock, nothing just walked straight in and in to our bathroom as they were trying to figure out where a leak was coming from on another floor (not ours). Could have been very embarrassing!! Room service - called for room service one evening for bottles of water to be told no as it needs to be agreed with reception?? Reception hadn’t made us away of this, nor was there any information on this in the room. Lifts - no lifts not great for suitcases on top floor or anyone that can’t lift or access. Breakfast- paid extra for this - DO NOT bother it was disgusting, bacon was crunchy undercooked. Hash brown was DRIPPING in oil! Bar- Hotel bar was nice, staff on the bar were friendly. Overall the hotel is very dated, smells of smoke, seriously needs updating!! Could be lovely place with some TLC.

Fab night away
Last minute break away. Lovely friendly staff. At breakfast you feel like your part of the family. We have booked it again as our airport hotel in a couple of weeks. The only thing that confused us was the parking as its close to another car park.

Apoligies for the smell of smoke. All of our rooms are non smoking but occasionally a guest does smoke in the room.

Refurbishment required
The receptionist was not welcoming or freindly when we checked in and out. This was about my 6th stay as my son lives in the area. The hotel is looking very tired and tatty. Breakfast was ok. The hotel is very clean.

Good value for a Saturday night
First time staying at this hotel, as our original accommodation fell through quite last minute, and for a Saturday night it was one of the most reasonable price wise compared to city centre prices that were more than double. We were staying on the top floor which meant walking up 40 steps so that's something for anyone to consider if stairs are an issue. Decor and amenities in the room were a little dated but as we were only there for one night it wasn't too much of an issue. Bed was comfy enough, though could've done with extra pillows as an option, and the room was generally clean but the bathroom was noticeably a bit dusty and had a few rogue hairs on the skirting, but nothing major. Only comment I'd make is the amenities in the bathroom are single use (soap, shower gel, plastic cup etc), not sure if these were put in place during covid, but it'd be nicer to see these replaced with multi-use alternatives if/where possible. Overall, it was a pleasant enough place to stay. Minimal hotel parking but there's public carpark just next to it which is fairly inexpensive and free on Sundays. Nice and quiet, only a short drive from the city centre, and easy to get to from the A1. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again in future.

Short stopover.
Nice hotel, lovely staff and comfortable rooms. Excellent food in the Lounge bar. Fish and chips was amazing! Only gripe was there was an irritating whirring noise all night from an air con or fan unit somewhere.

Room had a good mixture of old and new, bathroom was nicely done out and towels replaced every day. Only possible difficulty was the parking, but appreciate that's not easy to rectify in such a restricted area.

Friendly staff but showing its age
The staff were friendly and efficient but the room condition/decor is definitely feeling tired. Feels like it’s not been touched for a couple of decades. The bed was big but quite soft. If you need to be in the local area then there aren’t really any other convenient alternatives but I wish I could feel I want to stay there rather than need to. Even just a bit of a freshen-up/modernisation would help
