Fantastic location
Great stay in a quieter area of the lakes. Magnificent views all around the property. Lots of walks nearby. Nice and cosy property especially with the log burner. Comfy beds and everything you would need for a relaxing few days away.

Charming house, perfect for getting away from it all!
We were a family of 8 ranging in age from 15 to 77. The house was perfect and quirky which we loved. Spotlessly clean and everything that we needed was there. The house is on the hillside and away from it all. We enjoyed walks from there around the nearby lake. Would love to return.

Perfect Stay in the Lakes
High Bield was exactly what we were looking for--elevated property overlooking the pristine valley with privacy and seclusion and the opportunity to walk out of the door and onto the Fells. The owner is attentive and responsive and we received exactly what was promised on the tin. Can't wait to stay there again.

Visit to the Lakes with family, most from USA and some from England
We had a great time in a great location and a great house. We were lucky with very little rain so we did get some good hikes in and wished we had more time to hike right from the house. The drive to anywhere is on winding roads so anyone who gets car sick beware! We absolutely loved the out of the way location and hopefully will be able to return. Lisa Roberts

Beautiful house with pleasing views in heart of Lake District
The whole process from booking to checking in was smooth and easy. We were a group of 4 adults and 3 children and the house has 5 bedrooms which was great. Children had one spare room just to play in. The property is a standalone lovely house in a quiet village with scenic views and perfect for a retreat. One waterfall was 15 minutes away and we spent few hours there. Windermere visitors center was 22 minutes away and a great day out with family. House is fully equipped with everything you can need with a big range of spices as including curry powder 😁 we came prepared and house had everything to facilitate cooking and preparing meals and enjoying the calmness and serenity. Would love to go back one day as we only stayed for 3 nights.

A beautiful place!
We loved our short break in this wonderful cottage and wish we could have stayed longer. It's beautiful inside and out, with lovely interior decoration, very comfy beds and the location and views are amazing. We did some walks, watched films and played board games. Perfect for three teenagers. Fiona was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely Fabulous
Where to start, we'll let's get it out the way, be ready for the drive up to the house. Won't suit all cars , but part of the experience. The house is fab unreal location with Brill views . We walked around brother water , some lovely little villages 2 to 3 Miles away. You'll love it we did x 6 Adults 2 Kids 2 Dogs. 5 Star from us all

Great break
Lovely few days away with family The house was clean and well equipped with cooking equipment and entertainment.. The house was a little hard to find ..its well up off the road side .. and a bit of a off road drive ,, but well worth it would definitely go back

Home from home
We had a lovely few days at the property over New Year we had everything that we needed and the views from bedrooms were amazing. Unfortunately we had to cut our holiday short due to family members being poorly. Would definitely like to stay again

second visit
We stayed here last year and enjoyed it so much we came back. The house if very nice, spacious with all the facilities needed including good heating and a wood burning stove. It is at the end of a very rough track, so not suitable for sports cars but there is a car park about 10 mins walk away. Great for walking from the door but not really close enough to the pub or shops. On balance, I like the solitude.

It was great to welcome you back and wonderful you had a good break . We have very committed pub walkers who have been known to walk back in the dark from both Brothers water inn (30 m) and white lion (40 min ) luckily for the less adventurous of us both pubs can also be found at the end of many walks and make it back in daylight ; )

Fantastic trip
This was one of the best holidays we have had. The views were incredible and the house was nestled in a quiet and serene location which had beautiful walks to Brothers Water and Ullswater. We climbed right to the top of the fells and experienced even more of the stunning scenery. The house was cosy and comfortable with an open fire on the colder evenings with everything we could need in the house to make our stay comfortable. We would stay here again without any hesitation. Fantastic break for our first experience of the Lake District

Comfortable house in an absolutely stunning location - views from every window and wildlife everywhere. Walks from the doorstep. 10-15 minute drive from Glenridding village. Great communication from the property manager.

A touch of paradise
Admittedly we were unbelievably lucky with the weather - not a cloud in the sky all week - but this is truly one of the loveliest houses-with-a view in the Lakes. Brotherswater to the left, Ullswater to the right. The Dodds all around. Perfectly appointed, everything you could possibly need. Inside and out. Lovely comfy beds. Secluded spots to escape to in the typical Lakeland wild garden. 6 of us, 3 generations of the same family, all running in the Lakes 5 Days Orienteering festival, loved it. Thank you and PLEASE can we come back?!

Another wonderful stay
We love High Beild. The views are spectacular and overlooking the valley the place stayed cool in this weeks unusually hot weather. Fiona is really good on communication and the house is well stocked with all the annoying little things other places have missing. I love morning tea with the many visiting birds including a pleasant and the added bonus of a pair of red squirrels.

Stunningly beautiful home in perfect location
From start to finish, the most perfect stay and the most lovely and cosy Lakeland cottage ever. We loved the fun drive up and couldn't get enough of the views and setting. The cosy duvets, blankets and lovely couches, not to mention the wood fire and well equipped kitchen, made it a perfect stay. The fact that you could access every kind of Lakes adventure you would want from your doorstep made it best of all. I'd be back again in a heartbeat.

Into the wild
Lovely views, peaceful and the house was most comfortable. The signposts to the house are inadequate. The first leading you up the track is very hard to see. Dirty green background with white lettering also dirty. We missed it, ended up in the car parkat the end of the road and had to ask a local. Worse was the lack of any signs on the track. There was a steep track leading off right which we thought was correct. We went up and got stuck as it was so slippy. We did manage to get down with the help of 4 pushers but it was a stressful start to the holiday. The sign by the road needs to be cleaned and repainted black on a white background and a painted small sign on the rocks at the turnings would help. The track itself is about as bad as possible and maneuvering 3 cars in that small space by the garage is not easy. We did have a lovely holiday but I think the criticisms I have made need to be addressed.

I’m so sorry you had a difficult trip to the house , I believe from yourself and other members of your party you had a great stay which sadly you don’t stress in your review. The house is in the middle of the national park and signage is not easy to get permission for .The sign in the village is made from green Lakeland slate so it blends with the natural environment. I have in the information tried to make the journey from the village as detailed as possible so I’m so sorry you headed up the track to the mast it must have been stressful. I will endeavour to improve signage in keeping with restrictions of the national park and ,as i said in our earlier communications ,look again at the information I send out . Sorry once again for your wrong turning on the track .

What a place to be!
Beautiful cottage filled with character and original features. Amazing views on all sides and so much wildlife/birds in the garden. Super clean, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen/diner maps, books and games, skyTV & Wi-Fi . Our ages ranged from 13 weeks to 69 and there was never a dull moment! Just a perfect place to drive to, then forget about the car for a week, so much to see and do from the door. We will definitely be back😂

Wonderful time in a beautiful location.
The house was much enjoyed by all 6 of us. It was warm and welcoming and we loved being able to walk from the door to our walking and cycling days out. The only time we used a car was for shopping in the supermarket in Windermere. We even managed to have a bbq and sit outside to enjoy the magnificent views. Great wifi. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds comfy. Will be booking again next year.

Breathtakingly beautiful views. Very well equipped and spacious home. Perfect for two families.
This house and it’s surroundings are nothing short of AMZING! I could write pages about how magical it felt, being surrounded by mountains, many of such were snow-capped at this time of year. The night sky was captivating. The moon illuminated the mountains and you could see the snow glistening in its rays. I couldn’t wait to wake up each day and drawn the blinds. The house was perfect for two families of four. We never felt on top of each other and there was plenty of space for people to drift off and do their own thing if they wanted. The upstairs bedrooms were great for the kids. They would disappear up there and play cars and games. There was so much space for them to spread out. The beds were super comfy, as was the lining. Also, lots of blankets scattered around to keep us cosy. The fire was a must for us in February. Though the heating in the house was perfectly adequate. The fire just added that touch of winter warming. Many books and games for the children (and adults!) to delve into. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. We found everything We could possibly need to cook for all 8 of us and each evening. Lots of herbs, oil, salt and other bits in there as well. The host was one of the best I have dealt with. So responsive and accommodating and helped us get in early when we arrived hours before check in. All in all it was a 10/10 stay for us. Yes, the driveway is a bit hairy the first time you do it, but the house is in the mountain! You can’t get those views with out it. Once you’ve done it once, you’ll be fine. Love this house and location and would return in a heartbeat.

Fantastic secluded cottage
High Bield is a beautiful elevated cottage with stunning views of the lessor frequented part of the Lake District. It is well equipped and has a unique history that adds to its charm. There are plentiful walks starting from the front door. The kitchen and pantry are a perfectly set up for entertaining. The beds are comfy and the living room is large and inviting. Every room has postcard worthy views and it was hard to leave. The drive up to the house was not as treacherous as feared and is quite enjoyable! I highly recommend booking this spot, you will not regret it.

Fantastic property for families or groups of friends.
Cosy large family house, great for dark sky views but isolated and unsuitable if you want to walk to the shops or local pub after dark.

Dark sky watching and wonderful views are part of the High Bield experience, I’m pleased that you could enjoy them . The house is a little way out of the local village but we hope that is part of its attraction and unique position above the valley . All the better for squirrel and bird watching too .

Fabulous Stay

High Bield is a magical place. Superb location for walks and great features. Every thing needed!
A privilege tovreturn to a favourite house and location. High Bield is unique with tge history of Anne Macbeth and great memories for us as a family. We came for a birthday treat, some walks, Lake District weather and peace and quiet. We were not disappointed!

Amazing views
Incredible stay,outstanding views and walks are just amazing.House is remote and an adventure just to get up to it but we'll worth it. Another lovely stay
High Bield is a fabulous place to stay and wake up each day with breathtaking views of the valley. It is well located and despite the lakes being very busy it didn’t feel like it here. The house is well stocked with all the annoying things that other properties sometimes aren’t. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Beautiful remote spot
Property was lovely with stunning views. Track up to property is good fun but off road. It gets a bit tedious if you are out every day. Perfect location for Helvellyn, stoney pike and a short driving distance from many activities. Ample space for our family of 7 with plenty of cooking pots and utensils etc and loads of games to keep you amused in the evening. Perfect place for a weeks getaway and away from the crowds.

So pleased you had a great holiday, the cottage is indeed in a wonderful location for many of the Lake District’s iconic walks. We rarely get back in the car and walk straight from the door .

The perfect location but bring a 4x4!
This is an idyllic house with superb views and great history for art lovers. We stayed during a very hot week so couldn't do many walks but spent happy hours on the terrace admiring the fantastic views. Lots to do in nearby Glenridding and on Ullswater for those who don't walk, but lots of walks straight from the house. Despite the heat the house stayed cool, which was a blessing and is cosy enough for winter. Great downstairs shower and upstairs bathroom. Kitchen very well equipped with large pantry. Heed the warnings about the approach to the cottage, it is a rough track, we managed to get a VW Passat and a Vauxhall Insignia and RAV 4 there without difficulty and park and turn, but go slowly and sensibly and you shouldn't have a problem. Thank you Fiona and family for allowing us to stay in your wonderful house. 🥰

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location
A very easy booking process from start to finish. The communication with the host was excellent and we found the cottage just as expected! It was very well stocked including some larder essentials. The cottage is in a stunning location and we were able to do day walks right from the door. Would highly recommend this place!

Best place to stay in the Lakes
If you want instant relaxation the minute you step out of the car this place is for you. Beautiful, spacious, cosy with a light well equipped kitchen and views from every single window in the whole house. Absolute silence and privacy and aspects virtually unchanged from its original state but with upgraded windows and relaxing sofas. Just perfection.

Great property
This is a great property with fantastic views and garden. It's location is to die for although the track to it is a little rough and potholed with three gates that need opening. It has kept much of it's original shape and some fittings so it might not be to everyone's taste. It does however have an intriguing history.
