The Black Lion is well positioned, Food Good, Beers a good choice, Breakfast Good. Room a bit dated but acceptable for a night or two.

Arrived at the bar at 2.50 and asked if the room was ready to bb told we will call you when it’s ready so we had a drink at the bar . After 3 we asked another member of staff who checked us in straight away . The room was very dusty so we told them they sent someone to clean it Mold in wardrobe , toilet dripping all night . Breakfast was just just ok , some of it cold . Overall very tired rooms . Certainly not worth £140 a night

Decent stayover
We have stayed here many times as a stop over to the north east. Pub has been refurbished since our last stay and our room comfortable with all we needed for an overnight stay. Unfortunately this time breakfast wasnt included in our stay now costs £12.95 which we thought was a bit steep for a pub so did not have breakfast there. Had a nice evening meal in the pub though lots of choice. Parking very limited.

Very comfortable bed but breakfast poor
Bedroom small but very comfortable bed - but despite providing a hairdryer there was no mirror in the bedroom! Breakfast was disappointing and not worth the £12.95 - apart from the full English just mini cereal packets - no fruit, yoghurt or muesli offered and they wouldn’t do a cheese omelette when asked.

Would stay again
Nice hotel, clean and tidy. Toilet seat in my room was very loose and came off so in need of repair, and weirdly no mirror in the room! Breakfast was fine, not a huge choice of continental but good cooked selection.

Very disappointing
Very disappointing. Room noisy due to extractor fans. Knob off dressing table. Protruding dangerous screw. Carpets worn and stained. Window catch broken. Window opened to long dead pigeon. Toilet seat loose. Curtains hanging off rail. Room lit by floodlights most of night. Asked for room change but none available. Young staff at breakfast polite and helpful. Decor tired needs refurbishing.

Perfect for Young Families
We had a fabulous stay! There are a few parking places on site but there was always space available throughout our stay. We had an amazing family room (although flat is a better fit which had two bedrooms, a hallway and a bathroom included). A travel cot was available for our one year old and was assembled in our room prior to our arrival. Beds were really comfy and we all slept like logs (including my little one which is a rarity)! Even though breakfast service did open 10 minutes after the time we had booked, the food was exceptional! However, the highlight of the Black Lion is the staff: everyone you spoke to went above and beyond and clearly cared about the guests and the hotel itself. We were treated like royalty and felt rested and recharged after our visit here. Full credit to all staff. We will definitely be back and recommend the Black Lion unreservedly!

Overnight stay
We stayed here for one night stay to break our journey to the north east. We have stayed here before . Its basic in the room no frills. The pub is in the centre of town everywhere walkable.the meals are good and it serves real ale. The breakfast was plentiful and all the staff we met were all pleasant.

I've stayed at the Black Lion a couple of times and the service from the staff is first class along with the excellent menu

Whatever we requested, eg locking our keys in our bedroom!!! It was solved with courtesy and efficiency. Staff particularly good at their specific jobs. Good night’s sleep.

Great little find
Great little find. Everything as it should be, room a little on the chilly side but first weekend after the change from summer to autumn, and it was chilly outside anyway. Lovely breakfast. Room a ittle noisy from the main road at the back of property, soon sorted with ear plugs. Would recommend to others.

Very nice staff and a lovely little find. The building is very old so full of character including the occasional slightly sloping floor but it was lovely.

The Black Lion is in a great location for seeing Richmond, just off the market square. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Locals come here to eat in the evening and for lunch. Breakfast was really good. There is on-site parking, but also lots of places nearby to park. It's just a short walk to the very impressive Castle and all the shops are just around the corner. A great place to use as a base for seeing the Dales and County Durham.

This is an old inn that has been extended considerably and is now a complete rabbit warren, with no elevator. Our room was the last available when booked, and turned out to be on the 3rd floor up a particularly steep staircase for the last floor - not suitable for everybody. Room was okay, and fire exits well designed (just as well 'cos there was a false alarm at 4.00 in the morning....) It is well located in the middle of Richmond, and the staff and food were very good.

Plus and minus in Richmond
In general all good. A nice room with good breakfast. My wife and I had dinner once - my meal was very average and service was on the slow side. My wife ( A Yorkshire girl) commented on our stay with "it could have been a little more friendly" and we both thought the rear of the hotel needs tidying up. Very central location though and the parking is free.
