Before any guest arrives we ask them to read the full description of our place so as not to have any false expectations, obviously Joni did not read the description as it clearly mentions the variation of ceiling heights , the access to the loft, the interior and exterior of the property. Yes, the the ladder to the loft may have been challenging for a senior and perhaps the 15 minute walk to the Plaza may have exceeded the stamina of a 65-70 year old. As communicated, we are situated within a quiet, safe, family neighborhood. Describing the exterior as "iffy", she may not have liked / appreciated the traditional Taos aspen pole fencing or walking through the french doors to the patio with multi- colored iris beds. All of this is described in detail and she certainly did not have to book our place if it did not meet her needs. Joni changed her mind several times about wanting to use the loft, she "waffled" back and forth. She booked requesting to use the loft and when she arrived and inspected the place she thought it was ok, but then she changed her mind and decided her guests wanted another place, this all stems from her not communicating her needs and not reading the property description. Taos is a rural community with traditional adobe architectural styles, definitely not in the tradition of a gated community.

The check in details may be lengthy, letting guests know about the use of the coffee maker, washing machine etc. and yes we expect guest to wash their dishes and pick up after themselves and leave the place in good condition without damaging anything. We have never told/ mentioned to guests not to “touch anything”, on the contrary we want our guest to feel like the place is their own home, reading our books on New Mexico arts, history and the Southwest, enjoying the fireplaces, the ambience and taking pleasure relaxing in the patio. The sitting in the living area is described as a “banco” not a couch, which is typical of Taos historical architecture. The kitchen with a cathedral high ceiling was designed for the pleasure of guests who cook. We mention the need for dishes, pots and pans to be cleaned after use, never stated “no lingering smells”. Guests have cooked many meals leaving the kitchen as they found it. After many years of having short term rentals we have had some unfortunate experiences with stains on towels and sheets that had to be replaced, broken glasses, dishes, coffee makers, cutting boards and other damaged kitchen utensils. Giving guests written directions on how we expect them to treat our home gives them an understanding to respect our property. Guests expect a clean environment and we deliver. We charge a cleaning fee to clean all parts of the unit, the sinks, bathrooms, kitchen, washing all the linens, and keeping our unit in a perfect condition. Guests find it immaculately clean.

As hosts, we go out of our way to create a welcoming and pleasant environment for our guests. Guests are expected to have read the house descriptions before booking to make sure the house meets their needs and does not pose any surprises or disappointments. These guests should have read the house description very carefully before agreeing to make their reservation. Once guests book, we always request them to thoroughly read the house descriptions carefully, especially if they haven’t read them already, to get a full understanding of what to expect of the house. We asked them to reply “yes” if they read everything. The guest, AJ answered yes and we presumed she and her two friends were fully aware of our house details. All the ceiling heights and dimensions of various rooms and the loft are clearly stated. These guests had about 2 months from the time they reserved until their arrival date and could have asked questions, contemplated between their needs and our place to make sure they would not be inconvenienced…and could have cancelled for a full refund. It is disheartening to hear when guests are not satisfied or delighted with our place when it is obvious that these guests did not read the house description carefully in the first place, that consequently gave rise and brought about what resulted in their discomfort.

So glad you enjoyed our place which seems like it is in the country and sometimes you can see the cows in the pastures a few fields away and yet it is a 10-15 minite walk to the plaza. Thank you for leaving our place in an impeccable;e condition and we look forward to having you and your wife as guests whenever you wish to return.
