Our family spent 10 days at the Barcelo Maya Palace (4 adults, 5 kids aged 10-17). The property is clean and authentic feeling, lots of space and beds around the pool. Just like any other place you need to get up early to reserve a bed in the shade. They will remove items if anything is left on beds the night before which is helpful. Rooms are very spacious, cleaned regularly. Check in/out was easy. It's a pretty big place and the directions to get around are a bit lacking. Hard to find your room at first but lots of staff around to ask for directions. Went to the waterslides ($20US each), not worth it - all kids up to 12 must wear water wings, 13-17 must wear life jackets. Slides are small and kids were over it soon, prob more fun for small kids. The entry fee also got us into the surf ride which the kids enjoyed. We did the go carts ($15US each) which was fun but the carts are kept in the sun so be prepared for that shock. They cool off quickly once you get going. This also came with a ride on the quad bikes which are manual so if you want to try a spin class in 30-degree weather, do it! We sweat it out for about 6 mins before admitting defeat. Evening entertainment was lacking, shows were cringe and we didn’t stay except for the MJ show, cuz well, it’s MJ. Overall, we had a wonderful time, food was decent with variety and fresh cooked to order buffet options, easy to make reso’s for restaurants but need to book asap upon arrival. Great place for families, we all had fun.
