This apartment was a great place to stay, for several reasons.
The location is excellent for exploring Florence on foot.
We arrived early, and we were able to drop off our luggage at the store, so we could do some sightseeing before the apartment was ready. Be mindful that the store closes for lunch.
The layout is very nice. It is spacious, with room to spread out. It has a huge dining table, and a 2nd bedroom which we used for luggage, clothes, etc.
The decor is nice, as well. The whole place has kind of a Renaissance/medieval feel to it, but with modern conveniences.
The street out front is lively during the day (which adds to the charm), but very quiet at night. The main bedroom is located away from the street, and has a very comfortable bed.
Gaia, the owner, was very helpful and accessible, and genuinely wanted us to be happy with the place. There were several people in her store who were also very friendly and helpful. They even spoke with a local artist by phone for me (when we were having phone issues, and the artist spoke no English), and they arranged a taxi for our departure.
We had a little issue with access to the tumble dryer (which is in a separate room, up a half flight of stairs from the apartment), but Gaia handled that very well.
After our departure, Gaia refunded our security deposit very quickly. If we are ever in Florence again, I would definitely consider this apartment as my first choice.
A few tips for future renters: The refrigerator works great, but make sure it stays closed when you close it; there were a few times when it didn't quite close all the way for us, when we weren't paying careful attention. Also, there are two things to be mindful of regarding the master bath: 1) The sink faucet design is such that you can't adjust the water temperature after you turn it on. If you want the water to be hotter or colder, turn it off, twist the faucet one way or the other, then turn it on again. Note: the hot water can get scalding hot, so don't turn it too high. 2) The shower in the master bath is great, but it is in a clawfoot tub, and the curtain only covers the front side. This means water can get to the floor by the other side and back walls. That water then drains to the threshold of the doorway. We put a towel down at the base of the wall to catch the water before it reached the threshold. These minor things were nothing compared with the positives of the apartment and dealing with Gaia.
