Oh my, Romani and Rory, this is highly upsetting to read about your experience at our Guesthouse. Let’s address your concerns one by one: Of course it is completely unacceptable that there were flies at the buffet. We have a special “Fly Away” apparatus that is used exactly to prevent this during the warm months of summer. It usually works very well and for the life of us we cannot fathom what happened during your breakfast. As for the “chef” being rude: the lady’s mother tongue is Xhosa, and she is very self-conscious about her command of the English language. That may be the reason why she came across as dismissive and rude. But thank you for pointing this out to us – we will certainly address this issue. Regarding the lack of cleanliness in your room: We have appointed a senior staff member from 1 March who has 9 years experience of managing the cleaning of a 5-star international hotel. We have full confidence that the undesirable issues you mention will never occur again. Please come down from Bedfordview and visit us again so that we can prove to you that we are really delivering the sterling service that you rightfully expect!

Our pride and joy is to have our guests leaving our guesthousre feeling happy, contented, and well looked after. When this is not the case, it is of course of immense concern to us. We always take great pains to rectify anything that was not on par with the superior service and facilities on which we pride ourselves. As for offering to dry your wet clothes, of course you are quite right. We should have done exactly that. Thank you for pointing it out to us – in future we will most certainly take up your suggestion. However, we do not understand your comment about being cold at night? We have very efficient under carpet heating in all the bedrooms, and an extra blanket is provided as part of the turn-down service every night, combined with a freshly prepared hot water bottle in every bed. We are also somewhat perplexed about the bad smell in the bathroom of the Seastar Room where you stayed. It is such a pity that you did not mention it personally while you were here, when we could have determined the origin. Now we cannot trace anything and are quite mystified about a possible cause…. As for the restaurant booking: we have learned from experience that the popular restaurants in a small town like ours are typically fully booked especially during the whale watching season. We therefore provisionally book a table at any of the top restaurants in advance, should guests be happy to take up the recommendation. We do not receive any commission from any restaurant, but simply see this as a value-add - typically much appreciated by our guests. Of course guests are always advised that they are under no obligation to take up the reservation. However as a courtesy to the relevant restaurant, we prefer to cancel if guests have their own preference, hence the question about taking up the provisional booking or not. We nevertheless trust you enjoyed SouthAfrica

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation. The Guesthouse may seem a little far from town, but offers the peace and tranquility that most guests are looking for while on holiday. The drive to town is less approximately 8 minutes.
