The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Comfortable Room. Melville shopping centre nearby about a 15 minute walk and area felt safe to me. Using uber is a good way to go to areas further out. Very much enjoyed the days tours organised by the guesthouse with tour guide Ephraim. I recommend 84th on 4th Guesthouse as a very nice place to stay in Johannesburg.

The breakfast was very nice. The staff were helpful and courteous. The room was clean but is in need of some maintenance. E.g. curtain rail falls off each time you move curtain; no inset door handle for bathroom (had to use finger nails to slide door), things like that. Bed and bedding old and needs replacing. No generator; electricity invertor only for wifi during loadshedding (not for heat).

Great place with great people
Super friendly hosts who are always there for you. The second I walked in and had the first chat with the guys I instantly regretted that we booked only one night. The people at this place do an amazing job (and an amazing breakfast! I recommend the Omelette). Thanks for having us!

The property is uniquely decorated, the family room is spectacular, but most of all, the staff was warm and attentive. When we arrived, l had caught my finger in the door of our car, and the receptionist who was going off duty, stayed with me until I felt better.

Melville has always been a wonderful safe, quiet but bustling neighborhood with plenty of great shops and restaurants. It has slid a little since COVID but I’m sure it will recover. Lots of closed businesses. Still friendly and quiet. The staff at 84 was wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Really good breakfast. Very helpful and personable staff. A great place to stay.

Nice room in an inner courtyard guest house, just a half block from a bustling area of small shops and cafes. Accommodating staff and good breakfast. Nice claw foot tub—perfect for a relaxing soak. Comfortable, cozy bed.

We had everything we needed, and the staff was willing to go above and beyond to provide us amenities or assistance. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic. The compound itself is beautiful.

The room was hot because the fan was not enough to cool the room and make it comfortable. The towels and beddings need to be replaced with new ones. The sofa also, otherwise it was ok. Breakfast was good.

Loved the staff and the breakfast. We really needed air conditioning so weren't comfortable at night. There are no screens on the windows, if open. The facilities are a little more rustic than the pictures show online, but very clean and the roomwas large as well as the private bathroom. Nice hot water and comfortable bed in our room. Neat garden courtyard.

Quiet neighbourhood in a good part of town. Residence conditions were clean and service was good. Some of the features such as shower head needs de-clearing due to water salts deposit.

Nous sommes venus ma femme et moi même entre autres pour le show de GUNS N ROSES au FNB. 84TH was excellent especially DIMA at réception who found us every ask WE had.

Très bon accueil du personnel toujours très sympathique, très bonne localisation et super petit dej! Par contre, notre chambre n’était clairement pas au niveau attendu : lit très inconfortable et bruit continu venant de l’extérieur (peut être le moteur de la piscine du voisin ou un groupe clim du voisin juste de l’autre côté du mur).

Cozy guesthouse in Melville
We had a wonderful stay at 84 on Fourth and would highly recommend it. The staff were friendly and efficient, the rooms were comfortable and well-decorated, and they even provided complimentary glasses of sherry during check-in! Melville, the local neighborhood, is safe and has many excellent restaurants and shops. Kudos to the staff for all the care and attention that they have put into this excellent guesthouse.

Amazing hotel with such a professional staff. The place is exceptionally clean, well decorated, and feels just like home. The breakfast is incredible and the hotel is located right next to a strip of restaurants and vibrant nightlife in the hip neighbourhood of Melville. I will definitely be back here. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly!

Fantastic location and friendly staff
A lovely period home just a few metres from the restaurants of 7th St in cosmopolitan Melville. The staff are friendly and the room was comfortable. The highlight was breakfast, the omelette being highly recommended. I look forward to staying at 84 on Fourth again soon.

TODO excelente el hotel, la personal! No desayunamos porque salimos muy temprano hacia el parque kruger. La zona es muy buena llena de bares y restaurantes sin necesidad de auto. Te ofrecen transfer pago desde el aeropuerto pero nosotros llegamos en Uber, nos salió R 332.

what a wonderful find!
i got to SA a few days before my family and wanted somewhere easy to start my trip. i couldnt have picked a better the hotel. After 4 hotels in SA it has the best value and best local area of any of the others. really was quite special and i would recommend any solo, or family traveler stay there.

Sicherer Kurzaufenthalt in Johannesburg
Unsere erste Unterkunft bei unserer Südafrika-Reise. Wir waren für eine Nacht dort. Nettes Personal, sehr schöner Innenhof, wir fühlten uns sicher. Das Frühstück war auch gut. Das Zimmer war nicht sehr groß aber in Ordnung. Nach hinten ging noch eine Tür auf eine sehr kleine Terrasse, die war allerdings eigentlich nicht nutzbar, weil sie irgendwie zugewachsen war bzw. zu viel Geäst dort herumlag. Sie wurde aber auch nicht gebraucht, wir haben uns in den Innenhof gesetzt.

Le jeune homme à la réception est très sympathique et aidant. Nous sommes arrivés très tôt, il a gardé nos bagages, nous a permis de garer la voiture dans la cour fermée et nous a appelé un taxi. Quand nous sommes revenus plus tard nos bagages étaient dans la chambre. Chambre un peu petite mais jolie. Propreté ok. Très joli patio. Très bon petit déjeuner. Quartier sécure proche d'une rue avec bars et restaurants.

I enjoyed my stay at the Bed & Breakfast at 84th- the staff were very helpful, friendly and always willing to assist. Bed & Breakfast in a quiet location and yet close to amenities and easy access to the central business zone (CBZ). It's people who in the main make an service memorable. Well done.

Do yourself a favour and stay here if you are in Joberg. Before I flew to South Africa i considered a number of options before settling on this one. When driving through the slum areas i saw a couple of guesthouses.... beautiful little places but surrounded by shacks and questionable characters... be careful. At 84 they have made provision for all you could want.... the rooms are big... the bed is heated... there are enough cupboards in the room to unpack your things.... my room had a lounge chair and two tables you could eat at... you could get your laundry done for 50 rhand by one of the staff... the concierge service is excellent.... Mr. MX....as he is fondly called is one of the best and most helpful receptionists I have ever met in all my travels.... he even downloaded a GPS app on my husband's phone which proved invaluable in getting to our next hotel when the car rental GPS proved sub standard.... it's rare I stay at a hotel and have nothing to criticise...but this is the case here.
