Malibu hilltop haven
We absolutely loved our stay at Colin and Susan’s guest suite, we found ourselves wishing we had gotten to spend more time at the property itself! The hot tub and hammock overlooking the mountains were amazing amenities, we had so much fun horseback riding with Colin and Maura, and the suite was exactly as pictured. Susan even provided some basic groceries in the fridge. Highly recommend, wonderful hosts of a wonderful property!

Incredible stay!
This couldn’t have been a better stay! My only regret is not coming for longer. Susan was super communicative and everything was exactly as described. Our dog had a wonderful time as well. We were attending a wedding at Calamigos ranch and it was literally across the street and more than half the price of staying on sight. We definitely will be back again, thank you Susan!

We had such a wonderful weekend at this property! The natural surroundings of nature, plant life, animal life, along with the mountain views, was exactly what we were looking for. My favorite moment was taking off my shoes and walking in the plush, soft grass, while taking in the view. Followed by laying in the hammock between two large trees and truly soaking it in. The guest house is charming, clean, and has all the amenities you could need. This is a guest house on a large private property, in the mountains of Malibu. You would have no idea that Los Angeles is just over the mountain. The nights were peaceful and star-filled. Fantastic getaway, thank you for the amazing stay! We’d love to come back.

The Malibu Hills and an inspirational host!
This is a beautiful property, clean, private and with every luxury you would need. On top of that Colin, our host, was such an amazing character who we instantly connected with. His story has “box office” hit all over it, a charming man who’s life’s journey has just been like a best selling novel! A big shout out to Susan too who prepared our cottage and provided an abundance of lovely essentials and more! You will love this place and we will be back!

Perfect relaxing getaway
Perfect relaxing place to celebrate our 24th Anniversary away from our 6 kiddos. Was so peaceful & quiet, jacuzzi was amazing and place was perfect with a romantic charm. Especially loved the fresh flowers everywhere that smelled amazing. Would for sure stay here again next time we need a quick escape. :)

Perfect Weekend Getaway
I was looking for a weekend retreat with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday, and we wanted to bring our doggy along. We found the perfect suite in Malibu hosted by Colin and Susan on a beautiful ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains. Very cozy suite fully stocked and equipped with great amenities. Super relaxing hot tub with a great mountain view. The location is great and offers great proximity to many beautiful beaches and hikes (great recommendations from the host). Make sure to hit up Malibu's vibrant dining scene and farmers market. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and we highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a tranquil getaway with their furry friends. We would love to come back in the future!

Weekend in Malibu
My husband and I had a great stay at Susan and Clint’s mountain retreat. The views were amazing, it’s a great place to watch the sunset in the canyon. The house was so nice, bed super comfortable and they brought us an additional heater since it was a bit chilly when we visited. We also loved relaxing in the hot tub after spending our days hiking, great way to unwind. We would love to stay again! Thanks!

We loved our stay and would definitely come back. The private hot tub overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains was our favorite part. The suite was well equipped / stocked and the hosts were very gracious and kind. We had a wonderful stay!

A beautiful ranch-house stay in the Malibu hill
The hosts were great and interesting people! Colin is happy to show you around the property, get Fluffy (the tortoise) to greet you, and take you on a horse ride. The cute studio felt private and secluded and there was plenty of patio and garden space. The hot tub was great to have during the cool nights. I also really appreciate Colin and Susan being flexible in check-in and check-out so we could have a sunset and morning surf! Looking forward to our next stay here :)

Great Vibes!

Wonderful Week
My wife and I had a wonderful getaway here on the ranch. The suite is a perfect retreat for couples with a nice sized room, bathroom, and tons of outdoor space to lounge in and watch the incredible sunsets and then enjoy your morning coffee on the porch. And of course the hot tub is a great way to end the day. It's a short drive to Malibu proper and all of the beaches and other amenities so you're never far from something fun to do and not consumed by the crowds like you would be in one of the beach houses. The hosts, Susan and Colin, were friendly and welcoming and you should make sure to make time to ask Colin about some of his adventures, you won't be disappointed! And of course, don't forget about all of the resident horses and Fluffy the tortoise. If you are a garden/plant person, you will also be impressed at the amazing, mature vegetation that covers the property, it's stunning! We had an absolutely wonderful time and would not hesitate to return again in the future.

Majestic Malibu Retreat
We loved staying out in the hills of Malibu. We explored staying several different places but couldn't be happier about the relaxation, seclusion and beauty that Colin and Susan's property provided. Magical spot!
This guest suite is a lovely gem perched just off of Kanan Dume Canyon with fabulous mountain views and enhanced by a stunning overflowing garden blooming with flowers and succulents. The hot tub was actually hot--not always the case in some places I've stayed-- and had powerful jets and the scent of the nearby Jasmin was heavenly. I loved the decor and the King bed was comfy. Susan has provided a multitude of thoughtful touches throughout. The photos and descriptions are very accurate and it's ideal for a couple; however, if you have a third person who has to "sleep in the closet", I must say it was perfectly fine and large enough for my 19-year-old daughter and even has built-in drawers for some extra storage. I loved the ranch vibe and being so close to hiking, beaches and restaurants on the costal and valley side. This suite is across the street from the glorious Calamigos Ranch, and if you have an event to attend there, then this is the spot to stay. You will hear vehicles on the road so that may be an issue for some though it didn't bother us.

Susan and Colin were lovely hosts and very welcoming. I wish I had read the "fine print" a bit more carefully because the room is really too small for a 3rd person, and there is nowhere to eat indoors if the weather is cool. Bathroom is very spacious but the water pressure can't deliver the benefits of a two headed shower. Towels, robes and linens were a bit worn out. The view is lovely but the space is not all that private.

The Malibu Gem -Total Relaxation
Received gracious hospitality from Colin and Susan. The master suite was decorated nicely. The accommodations were peaceful and comfortable -we slept like a baby. We enjoyed the visits from Kayia, what a wonderful dog. As a added bonus, my husband and look horseback riding on local trails. Colin matched us to the perfect horses with the perfect saddle to match. A true horseman that knows his horses. An experience that will we are already planning our return visit. Our next visit will definitely be longer. Thank you again for a wonderful visit.

Home at the hilltop!!
The Hilltop Retreat was the perfect spot for us. We had never visited the area before and chose the Retreat based on reviews and were not disappointed. The hosts were wonderful! They were totally accessible and accommodating always there if needed but yet distant enough not to be a bother. And, the location!! The suite was close enough if you wanted to visit the Getty Villa Museum you didn't have to worry about traffic. If you decided to do nothing for the day, this was the place to do that. We had a great time and could not have ask for more and would not hesitate to return.

Amazing spot!
We loved everything about this place…the hosts (Colin and Susan) were extremely hospitable and the place is beautifully decorated to make guests comfortable and enjoy the location. The suite was impeccably clean and had lots of detailed personal touches that made it very relaxing and inviting. The location is awesome…near the beach and all the wonderful things Malibu has to offer. The grounds and landscaping were absolutely gorgeous. No privacy !!!!!!
Overall experience was unpleasant. We had no privacy from start to finish. Owners were walking by suite and other family members. Two huge dogs were always around in our space and area. Dog poop on the mats and outdoor grass area. No access to washers or dryers. Very little towels. The suite room had an awful old funky smell. poor communication with owners. No access to tv pin not provider, Overall bad experience.

Hello Cesia, in response to your review. Privacy: You must be referring to Colin and I who live on the property in which guests walk through our area to get to their car, which we do not mind. No one goes over to that side of the house when guests are here unless we have communicated with them to water plants or check hot tub. We observed you walking by everyday 2-3 times on the way to your car, not once did you mention any concerns. Communication: Upon entering the Suite there are welcome instructions The first item is Colin and Susan cell numbers to reach us anytime! We did NOT receive one text or call from either of you. Dog/Pet friendly:. I personally discussed the dog with you. If our guests uncomfortable with our dog we accommodate them by keeping her in the house. We ONLY have 1 dog very friendly d not 2! We apologize if she took care of her #2 business over in that area as it is uncommon and we would have come cleaned it up immediately if we were advised in person or via cell phone. Towels: We have plenty of towels. I put 6 in the room for a 3 day stay. 1 towel per person per day is usually fine however I would have been happy to give you as many as you needed. Washer and Dryer are available! all you had to do is ask us as I mention to all quests that Colin and I are very approachable and someone is always here to help with any needs or wants! We sincerely apologize for your disappointments. If you had communicated to us over your stay we would have been more than happy to have compensated you for any inconveniences. We heard not a peep until we received your review, unfortunately. We wish you health and happiness. Sincerely, Colin and Susan

Just gorgeous
This was an AMAZING solo getaway! Such a breathtaking view of the mountains from the spa tub and the capture of the sunset was BEAUTIFUL!! I felt at home away from home on such a beautiful property. Collin and Susan are two of the most beautiful people you'll ever meet. They made me feel so comfortable and safe. The Complimentary food items and beverages was a BONUS.... Most Beautiful View Ever!
We had an amazing time at Colin & Susan's property!! Grilling, hot tubbing, gazing at Frog Rock, horseback riding, lazing about in gorgeous gardens, sound sleeping - it was a lovely, memorable stay. The hosts are wonderful people who strike the perfect balance between being available to answer questions and providing privacy for guests. The location is perfect - super close to Point Dume and endless dining options. The suite is very comfortable with a high end bathroom. I especially appreciate all the details and food that Susan provides. They are both generous hosts. My daughter absolutely adored her horseback lesson with Mara, who is also an exceptional person. I could go on and on, but suffice to say, we will definitely return to this gem of a place.

Amazing!
We just finished a 4 night stay and couldn't have had a better experience. Colin and Susan were such gracious and helpful hosts. Outside the door is the most beautiful lawn and garden with a private sitting area featuring panoramic views. We spent time every day relaxing and soaking in the sweet smelling flowers and views. This was perfect after spending the day down by the beach around all the hustle and bustle. We had a party of three and it was plenty of room. Sunsets in the hot tub were awesome and we also enjoyed walks on their property to visit the horses. We will be back!

Great Weekend Getaway!
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night to celebrate her birthday and it exceeded our relatively high expectations. The room was very nice and clean and the views of the Malibu hills outside the front door and from the hot tub are outstanding. The property is very close to many interesting places in Malibu as well, so it served as a great home base from which to grab dinner and to explore the surrounding area. Colin and Susan are very nice, friendly and flexible and we were fortunate to have a lengthy chat with Colin on the way out. Would recommend to anyone looking for a mini escape from LA or who has interest in exploring the greater Malibu area.

Perfect for a Relaxing Weekend
My partner and I were very glad we stayed here, it's exactly like pictured. The room is perfect for a couple. It's cozy, romantic, and the views of the mountains are peaceful and surreal. My favorite was watching the sunset behind the mountains. Absolutely breathtaking! I sat there and stared as the sun went down while my partner grilled us up some dinner. The owners are responsive, and very respectful of our privacy. The kitchen is very small but well equipped for simple meals. If you're trying to make more complicated meals I would suggest bringing your own utensils and maybe an extra pan. It was a cold weekend during my stay but the small portable heater they provided kept the room very warm! The hot tub was awesome!! They couldn't have picked a better spot for it. Perfectly perched on the edge of the hill, where you can really take in the view as you relax. Overall I had a great stay, definitely perfect for a relaxing lowkey weekend.

Peaceful Respite
A peaceful, beautiful place to escape the city and forget about COVID for awhile. The suite was private, although attached to the main house. The private hot tub is just a few steps from the door. My miniature schnauzer enjoyed the open green spaces. Views are magnificent. Located on a horse ranch, I was able to go for a trail ride and was dazzled by the scenery, told some history of the area, and felt very cared for as I hadn't ridden for a long time and I'm 75. Colin and Susan are excellent hosts and made me feel at home and welcome. I highly recommend this property. I hope to go back soon.

Unique vacation getaway
We had the unique experience of living in this luxurious suite in a Malibu ranch. Other positive reviews have covered a lot of what’s great about this property already. Awesome, quaint, quiet hilltop retreat
We really enjoyed this property. The views and grounds were gorgeous, quiet, and private. The master suite had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and romantic. Colin and Susan took the time to show us around and make sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again if looking for a somewhat local, quiet getaway from our “city life”.

Perfect Evening
Our stay was fantastic! The room was even better than expected and we enjoyed every minute. Went to get away to some serenity for an evening away from home. The location is perfect and only 10 min from all of Malibu beaches and shops...bed is SO comfortable, kitchen was complete for us to make a fantastic meal. Amenities were incredible and hot tub was perfection. I was a little concerned about privacy but that concern didn’t last long. We will definitely be back when needing to reconnect and create another memory.
