Gray Sr. Civic Center, this charming property offers the perfect home base for your getaway.   • Joseph Winthrop Holley, born in 1874 to former slaves in Winnsboro, South Carolina, founded the institution in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. W. E. B. Du Bois inspired Holley to return to the South after he read Du Bois's writings on the plight of Albany's blacks in The Souls of Black Folk. Holley relocated to Albany to start a school. With the help of a $2,600 gift from the Hazard family, Holley organized a board of trustees and purchased 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land for the campus, all within a year. The aim of the institution at the time was to provide elementary education and teacher training for the local Black population. It was turned over to the state of Georgia in 1917 as Georgia Normal and Agricultural College, a two-year agricultural and teacher-training institution. In 1932, the school became part of the University System of Georgia and in 1943 it was granted four-year status and renamed Albany State College. The transition to four-year status heavily increased the school's enrollment. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program, a prelude to the school being upgraded to university status in 1996.

Lovely little spot in Albany!!!

Love this apartment! David is a great host, quiet spot that made me and my husband (and dog Hadley) feel very comfortable. Easy to get around the city from here, and super quiet. We will be staying here for a while and can’t thank David for his hospitality

Doesn’t feel safe

We pulled in to the carport behind the house upon pulling up we could see how bad the surrounding houses looked. Which left my wife feeling on edge and not safe. We decided to go ahead and check out the inside of the house. To our surprise the inside of the house was pretty nice. However, the main entrance door only stays shut with the deadbolt locked and even then you can still see into the house. We were inside for about 10 minutes before we left to go pick up our marathon race packets. Upon returning we decided that we could not stay here and feel safe and relaxed. The location it self was making my wife’s anxiety go through the roof. We messaged the host that night and let him know we would not be staying there. We were not able to get a refund or credit. However, the host was great with communication and always responded in a timely manner. Pictures of the outside of the house really need to be included on the listing so you can what you are getting yourself into. If we had seen those pictures we would never have booked this house. I do not recommend staying here.
