Staff at the HRH Desaru Coast were mostly friendly and helpful, and the facilities were well maintained.
There is a small water splash area for little kids, but the main pool is rather small and the kids club is not free for guests (unlike other resorts).
Guest rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable.
Families with young kids or individuals who value quality sleep should take note that there are rooms located right above the live band outdoor area. The band plays till 11:15pm most nights, and 11:45pm on the weekends. The noise level is very disruptive, especially for light sleepers and young children who may be scared of loud drumming and shouting. If this is you, make an early request for a room far away from the band area.
Our room was originally in this area, and it had the additional problem of being very cold, despite the air-conditioning being switched off the entire day. We found that the cold air was emanating from the connecting room door, meaning that the air-conditioning in the next room was very, very cold. It was so cold that condensation started to form all over the walls, floors, and doors of our room. This made it quite slippery to walk.
There are plenty more rooms located far from the band area, and these are very quiet and peaceful. The only con is that this area attracts more pests like cockroaches and lizards, whose droppings are not cleared up so it can be quite irksome for some.
