The magnificent Bamburgh Castle, dominates its attractive small village, set high up above the beautiful, golden Bamburgh beach and equally magnificent Alnwick Castle (fans of Harry Potter will recognise Hogwarts scenes from here) to name but a couple. These two are lived in today, but you can also visit the beautiful ruins of Lindisfarne on Holy Island, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth.

Inland a trip to the Borders will be equally rewarding for its scenery and history. LNER runs a mainline route through Berwick train station, a 15 minute easy walk, you are an hour from Edinburgh or Newcastle and a comfortable four and a half from London.
