The room stank of stale cigarette smoke and the window was jambed shut. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and there were still pubic hairs in the bath tub from the previous visitor. The carpet was caked with grease and grime and gave off a foul odour. Do not go near this place. It is absolutely disgusting.

Room felt like it hadn’t been changed in 20 years. The bedroom window needs replacing, could hardly see through it . The bathroom had black mould around the lip of the bath. The bathroom window pain didn’t fit the window. You got into bed and you could hear the springs in the mattress. Hospitality was absent. Felt like we were a hinderance. When I looked at the reviews for here it was 3.5/5 really!! On a plus point the door had a lock and the light had a shade. The electric heater was nicely placed with the curtains draped over it.

Once we arrived we couldn’t get in at first and had to phone up to gain access. We were also told categorically that there would be no breakfast on offer as the lady in charge was leaving the next day. Once in the room we tried to make a cup of tea and found no lead for the kettle, went to find one and everybody had disappeared. The TV took some effort to get working. No en-suite and the bathroom down the corridor my wife struggled to shut the door properly, on the plus side the shower in the bathroom worked well. On the whole a pretty poor experience and we will not be using this establishment again.

nothing nice to say about it.

Hotel was not very clean and out in the wilds. There was just nothing exciting around the place, if you didn't have a car you would be stuck there. We only went to this hotel as it was near to a wedding we had been invited too.

Nice old pub, very quiet, rural location.

Very quiet, clean and tidy, landlady was very helpful and friendly, breakfast was good, situated in a good location for visiting clovelly, bude is also nearby, in a quiet rural location.

The hotel was disappointing but the area of Hartland was lovely - hence the medium Overall rating.

Hotel was under construction of time of stay very off putting. But over all nice room clean land lady very pleasant. Nice location.

Adequate

The hotel is in need of a refurbishment but was clean and the room was a good size. (Not en-suite, but I think that was my mistake). The room was adequate but rather basic with no central heating. An electric heater was provided but the corridor and Bathroom were not heated. The breakfast was adequate but there was no sugar for the cornflakes or jam for the toast. (minor things I know, but you shouldn't have to ask).

PROBABLY WORST PLACE I'VE STAYED IN

I got there and there a bunch a very loud drunken people swearing and made the first impression very uneasy. I was not expecting a communal bath - it mentioned on the site that it was shared, but i interpreted it as shared amounts us as guests not other guests. I had to go and ask for the wifi number as it was not provided in the room and was connected with great ease - UNTIL I got back to my room - it said limited service. I was not happy about that either as this was not mentioned on the website when I booked in. I found the staff a little abrupt and caught her talking about us when i walked back into the bar for further assistance. We did not bother eating as we were so disappointing, so I can't comment on the food.

central for our needs!

We enjoyed our stay and the hotel was ideal for our visit and suitably situated in Hartland. Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Food was good. Having stayed here before, disappointingly the hotel could do with a little TLC to bring it back to its former glory, otherwise we did enjoy our stay!!

Too dear too little

The pub was closed due to a town bereavement but thr pub was still not cleaned from the previous night and the breakfast was not up to the usual standards of establiments that charge almost half of what this place charges I would certainly not recommend it to my friends

Was met by a very unfriendly landlady. Then told that i did not have breakfast although i had paid for it when I booked. The rooms were old and smelt of damp.

Hotel on the main road

Landlady wasn't very hospitable at all very rude in fact . We are glad we never booked breakfast because the person that had it didn't look like £6.50 . Would not stay again

Mouldy musty / uncomfortable bed /shower needs deep clean,didn't use/tv didn't work /no wifi /electric heater in room no heating to bathroom /worst place ever stayed in will not use again

I've stayed in better for half the price.

Warm welcome, lovely staff. Tired room in need of a little TLC. Rot in the wall panels in bathroom. Comfy bed but found two used tissues under pillow - eww. Nice to have a kettle in the room, shame there was no tea, coffee, cups, sugar etc. Could be a fantastic place but needs modernisation to bring it up to standard. I think the new owner is trying hard, but really it's a tired old locals pub with some rooms on top of it. Saying that would stay again as I think it will only get better with constructive feedback. Grub sounded nice but had previous booking with friends elsewhere.

Pub with accommodation in centre of Hartland

We were disappointed with the Anchor Inn in Hartland. Our room was a good size, nice and light with wash basin, and a pleasant view. but the bathroom was down the corridor and was shabby and grubby - there were empty shower and shampoo containers left from the previous guest, and hadn't been replaced with new ones. There wasn't a hand towel in the bathroom. There were two large bath towels and one hand towel in the bedroom.When we went down for breakfast there was no one to serve us, and no bowls or cutlery out. There was hardly anything on the buffet, so we left and went out to a cafe for breakfast. The evening meal in the pub was adequate - basic pub food. We wouldn't return, nor would we recommend it to friends. The owner was very pleasant but the place needs a good overhaul, both in the decor and in the organisation and staffing.
