Historic Thomas Chapel house - Half mile from Downtown Boone

Update: The chapel is fully functional and welcoming guests following Helene!

Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

We had a wonderful stay at the Thomas Chapel House! The location was perfect and the setting absolutely beautiful. The home had great amenities and everything we needed to be comfortable. It was incredibly peaceful and restful—exactly what we were looking for. We truly enjoyed our time here and will definitely be back!

Great coffee selection!Daniel was an extremely polite host and had great communications. There were about 10-12 steps to enter or leave and hauling suitcase made it worse. We were initially there for 1month.There was never any clean up or bed change which we feel should have been done weekly. The place had no comfortable chairs or seating. Lighting in bath was poor and there was no tv service. All this combined made for a uncomfortable trip and we left after 2weeks. We are not asking for any refund but it would be nice. We have used vrbo before and may give it another chance?

We enjoyed the history, the renovations, and had everything we needed to cook and relax! It is so close to downtown! The furniture and bedding are super comfortable and modern.We will stay here again!

What a beautiful place! Impeccable craftsmanship in restoring this lovely church--no detail left undone, and a very comfortable place to stay. Outside after dark, we enjoyed a great show from the fireflies. Just a great stay--thank you!

The vrbo was very nice, clean and comfortable. Privacy was great. The owner was flexible with our booking when requested due to a health issue and Hurricane Helene last year. Would recommend renting this property.
