Don't let the nice riverfront pictures fool you. Let me unfold the most bizarre experience with a hotel.
As I planned to arrive after 7pm, I called multiple times to inform in advance, reaching no one each time. A bad sign, but I figured their restaurant opens till 9pm, so I'd be fine.
When we arrived, the glass front door was locked. Peeking inside, 2 pallets of dirty sheets were stacked in the middle of a dimly lit lobby, which didn't look presentable or operational. A notice outside listed an emergency number for guests, which I called promptly. No answer, to my dismay.
After 10min of standing in freezing rain, I was convinced that Expedia listed a closed down hotel in error. Just as I was to find a new hotel, a staff appeared from inside, walking towards me. Savior! I knocked on the glass door, eye contact made, and only a few feet from me, he turned and disappeared.
Confused and shocked, I questioned my own existence for a min. Refusing to believe hope lapsed, I kept knocking, until he reappeared, promptly turning his back to me and walked away.
I blanked for a sec. Where am I?
Eventually, a female staff opened the door. A group of staff were partying and drinking in the restaurant area at business hours, so no one bothered. One girl unhappily checked me in (as I stood next to dirty sheets), complained about my signature and gave me the same emergency number. I explained the number didn't work, she gave me a dirty look and answered: anyways, that's the number.
