Xpujil was an overnight stop for us between Palenque and Playa del Carmen. For this, it served its purpose very well. Xpujil actually deserves more time, as it is in the heart of Maya country with an archeological site right in town and many more in the area. The hotel is off the busy highway that passes through town and was actually much nicer than we had expected. The place seems to be relatively new and our upstairs room was spacious, well-furnished and very comfortable. A small open-air restaurant served simple meals and breakfast and made our stay there quite easy and comfortable. WiFi worked well with a strong signal both in the room and in the restaurant area. Bring ear plugs, though. The dogs bark and growl and howl until the wee hours of the night, just when the many neighborhood roosters take over, singing their morning song. If you can sleep through that, you can sleep through anything! In this rural setting, any of the hotels in town would have the same issue. If we had slept with the windows closed and the aircon turned on, we probably would not even have noticed the animal noise. But with the nice country breeze blowing through the open windows, and a comfortable evening temperature, we preferred the fresh air. The hotel certainly offers value for money. I would stay again, possibly making the hotel a base for a couple of days in order to explore all the interesting sites the area has to offer. Two thumbs up (with two ear plugs thrown in for free!!)
