Hidden in the Valley
Every year on July 4th my neighbors set off fireworks above my home. I personally do not mind them; however, my dogs do. Fearing my senior dog would have to deal with another year of him having panic attacks because he thinks war is on our doorstep. I decided to take a vacation after almost a decade. This vacation was more for my pups then for me. After doing my research in the state of Arizona I found 2 cities where fireworks were illegal. Flagstaff and Sedona. I had my destinations in mind, and in order to save money I wanted to cook my own food. The criteria for the place to find was simple. Quiet, can cook, private, and a place my dogs can run around. Even though I began searching a month in advance, many places were taken or the prices raised for the holiday weekend. My budget was a maximum of 400. For 2 days that seemed way over budget. After exhausting my search, I found a place that sparked my interest in Camp Verde. Not exactly Sedona or flagstaff, but it was within driving distance so I didn’t mind. This property had fit the small criteria that I had been looking for. Without reading the fine print, I reached out to the host to make sure my small needs were met. The host (ED) confirmed it was quiet, secluded with a yard for dogs to run around, and a place I could cook. I asked if he was willing to make an exception for me to have two dogs as the listing said only one was permitted and under 30 pounds. After describing my dogs, he said both my dogs are welcome. I sa
