When I booked the property, I wasn’t aware that it was a shared space and I was literally renting a room. However, they were very responsive to my inquiries. That is huge for me. It appeared they have a cleaning staff on the premises. The place was nice and clean. The room was very cozy and comfortable and spacious. I’m not a fan of sharing a bathroom but it was clean. Overall, the stay was good. There is a great possibility I will stay again.

The walls are very thin, and people were very loud coming and going at all hours of the night. The location is convenient but the noise caused us to be awake multiple times throughout the night.

I'm definitely coming back next month for my birthday I felt like I was VIP the energy was so welcoming I didn't even wanna leave can't wait to come back No one bothers you. Almost as if you were living alone ...you don't even see anyone just the housekeeper. For my birthday I'm renting the whole place with friends and family. That's how much I loved it. I was supposed to stay for two days and chose to stay for two more days. Thank you so much for this amazing experience. You'll see me soon

This Guest House is a very nice getaway. You have full access to everything which is great and it’s also for a great price. No one disturbs you and no one bothers anyone so it’s like your in a house just with people you might see from time to time 😂 the only thing I didn’t like was there aren’t personal tvs In the rooms you’ll have to use the common area for that. Otherwise I give this 5 stars will be returning.

Thank you for the beautiful review. Unfortunately because it’s a guest house and the rooms are so close to each other, TVs in the rooms will be disturbance and no one will follow the quiet hours rules.

It contradicts what is in the posting Check-in instructions and house rules (Read the entire text 1–10 and confirm your arrival time) 1. Check in is available anytime after 3 p.m. Check out by 10 a.m. **Fee for early check-in OR bag storage OR late check out is $30. That's $30 PER incident. 2. The main entrance code is 3. Wi-fi access and further information are located behind your room door. 4. We are a guesthouse, not a hotel, so the walls are thin. We expect our guests to observe the quiet hours of 10 PM to 8AM in respect to other guests. 5. Your reservation is non-refundable. No exceptions. 6. Additional guest fee is $50/night plus tax. GUESTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BRING ANY VISITORS TO THE PROPERTY. **We report trespassing by unauthorized visitors to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).** 7. We are very sorry to hear that you didn't have a great experience in our guesthouse.We try to be as transparent as possible with all the house rules we provide to our guests. We can allow someone to walk you to the door but not enter the guesthouse especially if they are not a guest, this is for the safety of the other people staying in the guesthouse as well.

The owners of the property are terrible with their communication and literally waited until 2 hours before check in to send the link to pay the deposit. They sent the information regarding check in one minute before check in time. The room was decent but poorly lit, I had to use the light on my phone majority of the time just to see or open the curtains. This property is located directly across the streets from the projects and is in an unsafe neighborhood so I don’t recommend walking anywhere at night. You will see people hanging out at night. The cops were arresting someone right next door to the property my last night there. Bring your own towels because you won’t get a wash cloth. Overall, you get what you pay for don’t expect much and you’ll be fine.

Villa Dubois owns more than one property. I never received any communications from them before my stay and checked out their website, which had specific instructions mentioned nowhere on Expedia. When you call, there’s no option to speak to anyone OR to even leave a message. They say to email or text only. I sent 2 texts and one email before my booking and never heard back. I never received emails with how to access the property, and when I arrived the housekeeper refused to let me in by using Google translate to tell me her boss said no. I finally received a text from her boss saying there was an issue to the room I had and I would have to walk 3 blocks away to another of their homes. I did and still couldn’t get in because I hadn’t received the access instructions email. Once I finally did, there were only 2 towels for my 4 day visit, one of which was torn and stained, dead gnats and mosquitoes in the bathroom, someone else’s toilet paper in the toilet, no shampoo, conditioner or soap and the thermostat had a lock on it where I couldn’t adjust the temperature. They charged me a deposit outside of Expedia when I checked in via square and didn’t opt to refund it until a week after I checked out, and it took another week to go through. I cannot believe I was made to walk around bronzeville with my luggage and groceries with no way to contact them, and they refused to pay for my Uber or Lyft to the next house just for it to be in the shape it was in.

Ok but not up to code
The bed was comfortable, sharing a bathroom was a little inconvenient but not terrible, and there's a nice shared kitchen and living space upstairs. I was sick for my stay and couldn't find tissues anywhere which I think should be stocked in every room. I quickly noticed that the smoke detector was missing in my room (empty bracket), and the window is missing the catch for the latch so there's no way to lock it. Someone could get in from the outside without any trouble. On the security note, the doors to the rooms are super lightweight and it felt like a joke to lock your door. Better doors would also reduce noise from people talking in the hallway, etc. There were some things about the bathroom that needed maintenance too, like the faucet was wiggly, the shelf above the toilet sloped downward (maybe that's to discourage leaving anything there), and the shower door leaked out onto the floor. The shower head was spraying water on the ceiling until I tightened it. I get that this is a budget place to stay, but please fix the basic safety things.

There was an inconvenience with a room we previously booked but the host was very quick with accommodations and responded quickly every time. Everything else was great for the one night that we stayed. Would definitely stay again.

I needed to cancel this reservation, and neither Expedia nor the property were in any way helpful. I will not use Expedia again. This situation was borderline fraudulent.

It's worth to note that the reservation you want to be cancelled made on the same day at past 6PM. Even if the reservation was a flexible one usual hotels and accommodations have a 2PM or 3PM cut off for cancellation.

I wanted to stay in the room. Two days after I sent a message, when I had to check out, I was told that there was no room. Parking was not allowed at the street gate on Thursday morning, and I received a ticket from 7:30 a.m. When I checked in, I was not reminded that I could not park between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. After the feedback of the problem, the customer service did not reply.
