Anchor Point was built around 1900. We believe that it was part of the red brick Edwardian Coastguard residences and community buildings built in and around Argyle Road, Old Mudeford and the public landing area of Fisherman's bank at the end of the road.
The house is remarkably spacious with a large lounge and bay window facing Argyle Road. There is an open plan, well kitted out kitchen, dining area and small seating area overlooking the back garden, which is secure and solar lit for great alfresco dining; it has lots of storage and catches the sun for most of the day. A family dog is welcome, and it is less than a minute's walk to Fisherman's Bank, overlooking the harbour and only a five minute easy walk to Stanpit marshes, the recreation ground and cricket green.
The house has two spacious bedrooms, the master facing Argyle Road which enjoys harbour glimpses and benefits from a king-size bed and an ensuite shower room. The rear twin bedroom has a fully tiled ensuite family bathroom with a full size bath and shower above.
There are two parking spaces to the rear of Anchor Point with entry onto Coastguard Way.
The house has recently been totally renovated and is a delightful and very restful place to stay for a couple or family.
Anchor Point is in a great location close to the historic town of Christchurch with its Monday street market and 11th century Priory, so well worth a visit. Mudeford Quay is just round the corner with its unique blend of watersports, boat trips, play and picnic areas and where you can enjoy the Smugglers Run Trail, an immersive walk back in time outlining the local notorious areas of pirates past. This guided trail enables further views of the famous Mudeford spit, Black houses and colourful beach huts; a lovely coastal backdrop which frames the Mudeford Run harbour mouth and the nearby Friars Cliff and Avon Beaches. Fisherman's Bank at the end of the road gives access to footpaths and many ways to explore Stanpit nature reserve, Hengistbury Head and the inner reaches of Christchurch Harbour perfect for a ferry ride up the Stour, paddleboarding, bird watching or extensive photo opportunities of the wild horses that live there.
One of the owner's recommendations is to drop your bags and walk to the local fish and chip shop, about a minutes' walk away from Anchor Point to enjoy amazing quality fish and chips on your first evening to start your stay and part of our family's holiday house 'tradition!'
Mudeford Quay and Avon Beach are around fifteen minutes' walk away. The Quay is a great favourite with kids big or small, with crabbing buckets, nets and bait available from the shop at the Haven House Inn or the famous Fish Stall. You may also see the RNLI lifeboat launched from the Quay during your stay.
Further down is Avon Beach and Friars Cliff where you can walk for miles along the coast, navigate Zig Zag headland walks, or stop for a gentile afternoon tea at Highcliffe Castle, the Edwardian home of Mr Selfridge. On this coastal route you can also take time to visit some great local fish and cliffside restaurants, welcoming local beach cafes and test out local specialty ice cream or enjoy, out of season, a warming mug of craft hot chocolate, while watching the acrobatic skills of the local kite and windsurfers as the sun sets.
Further afield is the beautiful New Forest where you can get lost amongst ancient woodlands, see the famous roaming heathland ponies, visit picturesque villages and farm shops filled with local produce and crafts and also pop into the Beaulieu National Motor Museum. Along with some great hiking and cycling, this historical landscape offers the chance to get back to nature and see the magic of trees at their best.
