It makes an excellent family friendly base and a great choice for couples from which to enjoy this picturesque part of Cumbria.

With parking directly outside and an enclosed garden with terrace area, bedding plants and seating, you’ll love this little sun trap. Scalelands cottage is on the fringe of the Lake District National Park in a small hamlet between two villages, both approximately 1 mile away, and each offering fast food and convenience stores.

The nearest bar and restaurant are located on the main road about ¼ mile away and offer a good dining and drinks menu. A short drive to the Lake District National Park brings an abundance of walks, cycle routes, wildlife, mountains, and lakes. Your nearest lake is Ennerdale Water which is 5 miles away. Ennerdale is regarded as one of the most unspoilt areas of the Lake District and is full of wildlife including red squirrels, osprey and buzzards. If that’s not enough, Loweswater is just 10 miles away which leads to Crummock Water and then Buttermere.

Whitehaven, 5 miles, has good restaurants, supermarkets, shopping, and a popular harbour. St Bees Head Heritage Coast is 6 miles away, offering excellent coastal walks and golden sandy beaches, very popular with families and dog lovers.
