This was my fourth time staying here and while I LOVE IT, I don't know if I would do the Royal Level again. It was the first time I didn't get what I had requested and the first time I was treated like a teenager (I'm 32). We requested double beds over six months in advance and didn't receive them. I've never had that problem with the regular level. The other thing is that even though were polite, respectful, and tipped at every meal in the Royal Level, we kept getting treated like kids because we look young and didn't receive the same service as everyone around us. Other than that, I love the Occidental and have been there four times over the last 14 years. I will have to reevaluate the decision to purchase Royal next time.

The upgrade to Royal Club was not worth the $$. We last visited 7 years ago and 3 times prior- all Royal club, and were pleased with the upgrade, but this time the level of service and LACK of upgrade was so disappointing! We were unable to even get a dinner reservation our first 2 nights (7 night stay), went 3 days without AC in our rooms, no AC in restaurants, and some of the Royal Club Concierge staff was downright rude to other guests with legitimate concerns right in front of us. Other guest suites in Royal Club also didn't have hot water for showers for 2 days. Our shower door would not close so water went all over the floor, and our louvered door to the bathroom was missing multiple louvers, making it a joke to close for privacy. Refrigerator in room barely put a chill on beverages. Food was alright, drinks from the bars were NOT the alcohol the bottles said- they were filled with cheap knockoff alcohol. Royal Club Restaurant staff was our best experience. Just very disappointed in Royal Club. Not at all worth the extra money since we didn't see any benefit other than the RC restaurant. We will not be going back. They had several chances to improve our experience to reflect the upgrade we paid for, but the staff did not seem interested in trying. The overall attitude of the RC staff stunk as far as being helpful. Don't waste your money on the RC upgrade, in fact, book your trip at the Secrets down the road- they actually upgrade their upgraded guests.

The Occidental Grand in Cozumel is a very nice place located just adjacent to the Palencar Reef. The staff all try very hard to ensure you enjoy your stay by being friendly and helpful. The buffet food as good with plenty of variety. The a la carte restaurants are very good with good service. There are options for pool time...either busy with music, activities, and a bar...or an adult-only quiet pool. We never had trouble locating a chair to enjoy the pool areas. Stand-out employees were Pedro, one of the activities leaders, Victor in the main bar area, Carlos, the capitan at La Carreta, and Ana Gil in the breakfast area. We were at the Royal Club level which primarily affords you dining at La Carreta and a little easier access to reservations at the a la carte restaurants. There is also a dedicated pool area. I would recommend a stay at the Occidental Grand, whether at the Royal Level or not.

We had 3 rooms in the royal level and it was disappointing. The pool/jacuzzi for royal only guest was not heated. The lampshade in my room was molding. The pool towels that were supposed to be in our room were not stocked and I asked 4 times with no response. The staff in the royal level were rude. Upon arrival we were escorted to the royal sign in area. Two staff were talking to each other for 5 minutes and told use to wait. We asked for a mask because they are required even to order at the outdoor pool. When we asked the staff they actually rolled their eyes at us.

It's like stepping into a rainforest. It is so beautiful and tranquil. I enjoyed my dinner at the royal ; Irecommend the chocolate sphere! The only critic i have is for the buffet, I would prefer more options. I think more locally styled dishes would be nice. Overall the experience was wonderful and just what i needed to rest.

The property buildings and paths to beach/restaurants where pleasing. Unfortunately, all other areas were extremely disappointing. Do not let outdated pictures of their once-beautiful beach fool you. Most of the beach area has eroded away leaving a thin, steeply sloped strip left. Do not "upgrade" to the Royal Level as the accommodations are poor and none of the perks of this level were delivered. We received no priority bookings to the restaurants, the exclusive hot tub was never hot or even warm all week, and our room actually flooded one night due to torrential rain. Actually all the rooms on the first floor of building 21 flooded due to a design flaw. Also, the adult pool's bar was not always staffed and popular liquors such as Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan were nowhere to be seen. Long story short, book somewhere else when visiting beautiful Cozumel.

The property is beautiful and you really feel the authentic Mexican vibe. The service was just okay. They could have had a smoother check in process and explained the grounds and what services were available in the "Royal" level. We had to find everything out for ourselves and it wasted a couple of days for us to get it together. My luggage was never brought to our room and we had to hunt it down and bring it ourselves. However, Adrian was amazing and made the whole trip worth wild. Overall is was a great time, very relaxing and private. The best perk is that they will set up a rental car and have it at the resort waiting for you. There is also a pier that you can jump on the boats for most excursion which is very convenient. With all this being said, I would go back to this resort in the future.

This is our second stay at this property. The facility and the area are top notch. We stayed in the Royal Level and were able to take advantage of the small restaurant in that area for breakfast each day. There is a jacuzzi for adults in that area but we weren't able to use it because of the children that were allowed to use it as a pool! Staff did not enforce the adult only rule. The room was large and immaculate with a walk-in shower and a jetted tub. However, the sheets were like sleeping on sandpaper. We asked for them to change the sheets and they were a little better but still very rough. The food was adequate in the main buffet and the beach buffet. It was better in the Mediterranean Restaurant and the Steak Restaurant. We did not try the Seafood Restaurant. My main issue with this resort was the lack of air conditioning in the restaurants! Who can enjoy any food when it is 84 degrees and you are drenched with perspiration? They did not even have fans in the area. I can't say enough about the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. They were always pleasant, helpful, and kind. I recommend Guido's Italian Restaurant and Palmeras Mexican Resturant in town. Regretfully, I do not plan to return to the Occidental Resort on vacation because of the air conditioning issue. This might not be a big deal to someone else, but it is a deal breaker for me. After spending the day in the sun, I want to eat my meals in a cool environment.

The beach and pool areas are outstanding. The Royal Service is definitely worth it for the restaurant bookings and service from Royal concierge. Drawbacks where lack of variety at lunch. Would be nice to have some beach food options. Also El Coral the seafood restaurant was considerably worse than the others. Los Olivos and La Carreta are the best.

Very upsetting experience

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience at this hotel. The staff is trying to help however they are understaffed. I strongly recommend that you do not consider this hotel at this time.

We stayed at the Royal section. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to do anything that was needed to make our stay great. The biggest downside right now I believe is due to COVID: bar services are only a few hours by the pool and beach, activities are limited (no discoteca and nighttime activities done by 10pm), and people asking to wear masks...mostly at restaurants but a couple employees asked even when outside walking. The food could be better but overall was decent. The beach and water appear to have shrank some but were still excellent and gorgeous. We will be back but will wait until COVID times are done!

The food was bland and not a good selection. The dress code in the specialty dining should be told to you before hand so guests can bring the appropriate clothing. The property was beautiful and the staff were all amazing.
