Informazioni su questa struttura

Cozy County Autumn Escape at the Millpond Cottage - Pet Friendly!

  • Unwind at our cozy, pet-friendly woodland cottage on Galestown Millpond, beneath towering pines. Thoughtfully decorated with autumn touches, it has vaulted ceilings, a skylight, and beautiful pond views - a lovely place to slow down. Enjoy the stocked coffee bar, full kitchen, Smart TV, and fire pit. Sleeps three with a queen bed and futon. Bring your kayak or fishing gear, visit Cherry Beach five minutes away, or explore Ocean City, Bethany, and Rehoboth about an hour away.

    Welcome to the cottage

Welcome to our cozy wooden cottage on Galestown Millpond - a peaceful place to slow down, enjoy the pines and pond views, and settle into an Eastern Shore getaway. In autumn, seasonal touches, soaring vaulted ceilings, and light from the skylight make the cottage feel especially cozy. The view of the colorful leaves on the trees reflecting onto the pond is so special! Start the day with coffee from the stocked coffee bar, cook something in the full kitchen, and wind down by the fire pit after exploring.

Guests have private access to the entire cottage for the duration of their stay, as well as full use of our yard and outdoor areas surrounding the cottage. You’re welcome to relax outside, enjoy the waterfront setting, use the outdoor seating area and propane grill, or simply wander around and enjoy the property.

Our property is entirely on the same side of the road as the cottage. You’re welcome to use the grassy areas on our side of the street. Once you cross the road, however, you have left our property. The grassy areas surrounding the neighboring homes across the street are private property, so we kindly ask guests and pets to remain off of those areas.

The exception is the public boat launch directly across from the cottage, approximately 50 feet away. The boat launch is public and guests are absolutely welcome to use it for launching kayaks, canoes or small boats and for accessing Galestown Millpond.

Please remember that the boat launch is a shared public space and is not part of our private property.

There is also a locked garage attached to the cottage that we use for private storage. The garage is not included with the rental and is the only portion of the cottage structure that guests cannot access.

Otherwise, make yourself at home, the cottage and our yard are yours to enjoy during your stay

The cottage is cleaned and thoughtfully prepared for each stay. We leave a customized welcome sign, snacks, fresh linens, towels, and bathroom essentials to help you feel at home.

    Inside

The one-bedroom cottage sleeps up to three guests, with a queen bed and a futon. There’s a bathroom with a shower and sink (no bathtub), plus a kitchen with a gas stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, cookware, dishes, and dining table. You’ll also have a 55-inch TV, Wi-Fi, a dedicated workspace, air conditioning and heat, books, and board games.

Coffee and snacks are provided; breakfast isn’t included. There’s no washer or dryer.

    The pond, outdoors & wildlife

Galestown Millpond is 40 acre natural pond, so its appearance and conditions change throughout the year. The amount of naturally occurring algae and aquatic vegetation varies with the season, weather, and temperature, and can affect conditions for boating and fishing. If you’re planning to spend time on the pond, message me! I’m happy to share what I’ve observed recently.

The public boat launch is about 50 feet away, across the road. Bring your own kayak, canoe, small non-motorized boat, and fishing gear; we don’t provide watercraft or equipment. A Maryland fishing license is required. The pond is for boating and fishing, not swimming.

The cottage sits in a natural setting where you may spot bald eagles, herons, turtles, fish, squirrels, frogs, ducks, and plenty of geese. Ducks and geese sometimes leave droppings on the lawn, driveway, or near the boat launch. We do our best to keep the outdoor areas tidy, but wildlife comes and goes as it pleases - it’s part of staying beside a living pond.

Enjoy the yard, outdoor furniture, gas grill, and fire pit. The yard is unfenced, so dogs must stay leashed.

    Nearby

Seaford, Delaware, is about 10 minutes away; Cherry Beach is about 5 minutes away. Salisbury and Cambridge are each about a 30-minute drive. Ocean City, Rehoboth, and Bethany beaches are generally 45–60 minutes away, depending on your destination and traffic.

    Guest access & the property

You’ll have private access to the entire cottage. The rental is the small wooden cottage, not the blue house. Our family home is also on the property, separated from the cottage by a tree line. The neighborhood is calm and quiet, but the yard is not fenced or completely secluded; our home and neighboring houses are visible from parts of it.

Guests are welcome to use the whole yard and outdoor areas on our side of the road. Across the road, the public boat launch is available to guests; neighboring yards are private property. Two orange traffic cones mark the cottage driveway to make it easy to spot from the road. The garage attached to the cottage is locked and not included.

A Few Important Things to Know

The cottage is ground-level, with step-free access and a lit path to the entrance, although the ground is somewhat rocky and uneven. The primary booking guest must be 21 or older.

The cottage uses well water. Naturally occurring iron can sometimes cause an orange or brown tint or staining in sinks and toilets. The water is safe for bathing, cooking, and drinking, bottled water is complimentary if you prefer that. Please don’t fry fish inside the cottage, we don’t have a range hood.

    Celebrating something?

Optional romantic and proposal packages are available by advance arrangement. The Romantic Cottage Package is $149; the Proposal Package is $199. Both include special décor and take-home gifts, with personalized details available for the occasion.

Well Water Notice: The cottage is supplied by a private well. Due to naturally occurring iron in the groundwater, you may occasionally notice a slight orange or brown tint or staining in sinks and toilets. This is completely normal for the area and the water is safe for bathing, cooking, and drinking. However, for your comfort, complimentary bottled drinking water will be provided if you prefer to use that for drinking or preparing meals.

Shoreline update: The public boat-launch area across the road recently underwent vegetation clearing. The shoreline currently looks more open and may appear sparse or uneven while the vegetation regrows. This area is separate from the cottage property, and the work does not affect access to the cottage, yard, or public boat launch.

Our cottage is nestled in a beautiful, natural woodland environment. We embrace wildlife-friendly, sustainable landscaping practices and intentionally leave fallen leaves, pine needles, and pinecones in many areas of the property. These natural materials help support healthy soil, protect the forest floor, and provide important habitats for local wildlife.

While we maintain our guest areas, our property is intentionally more natural than manicured. We believe preserving the beauty and ecological health of our little corner of the forest is part of what makes this place special!

Wildlife & Nature: Our property is home to a variety of local wildlife, including ducks, geese, turtles, frogs, herons, and other native animals. Because the cottage sits on a natural pond, geese and ducks occasionally leave droppings on the lawn, driveway, and boat slip. While we do our best to keep outdoor areas tidy, we cannot control where wildlife goes, and this is simply part of the natural environment. We appreciate your understanding as you enjoy this peaceful waterfront setting!

Seasonal Pond Conditions: The cottage overlooks a natural freshwater pond, and conditions change throughout the year. During warmer months, you may notice varying amounts of naturally occurring algae and aquatic vegetation. The appearance of the water can change with the season, weather, and temperature, and this is a normal part of the pond’s ecosystem. At times, heavier aquatic vegetation may also make fishing or boating more difficult in certain areas of the pond. We cannot control these natural conditions, but they are simply part of the beauty and wildlife of a natural waterfront property.

Mi è piaciuto: Pulizia, check-in, comunicazione, posizione e accuratezza dell’annuncio
This was a clean, comfortable place to stay. We only stayed one night, but would've enjoyed staying longer. Sitting outside with coffee in the morning was special. The number of different birds we heard was amazing. We didn't have time to explore the pond, but it added to a nice, quiet stay.
