We'll be back...again and again
We discovered this little gem about 10 years ago. Whenever we are in Custer, The Rocket Motel is our first choice. The only thing I would like different, would be the temp controls in the room. Hard to manage. Would love the option to run a fan to muffle outside noise. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay

The owner lied to me about making a change in the reservation causing me to pay for a night we did not stay at the motel. Dishonest despite the fact they have a “Jesus” sign on their front door.

Cute Little Motel
The cleanliness at this cute motel was top notch. Everything was pristine. The decor was 1950’s style and worked well. It was a chilly night (woke up to frost of the car windows). Our room temperature was 55 F., a good sleeping temp but too cold for a morning shower. The heat apparently wasn’t on yet.

Blast from the past! Absolute love it and will be back many times! Extremely clean. Walking distance to everything. Soft sheets, soft towels! Amazing front desk help. Perfect and highly recommend!

Very nice. Would stay here again.
Some of the parking areas can be a little awkward for a motorcycle but the overall experience is worth it. We would stay here again. Nice walking distance to area shopping and eating.

Never again. Do NOT stay here
The app told me I had already paid so when I was confused by the owner asking for payment he got ANGRY with me immediately and berated me. I called customer service and turned out the problem was with the app but the damage had been done because of his treatment of me for just being confused. I wasn’t accusatory or anything. Then I had to spend time trying to talk him into being calm with me. If anywhere else had had rooms I would’ve left. As it was we did leave a night early. My husband went to check us out cause no way I was going back into that office. He told my husband no refunds when my husband didn’t ask for one. And then he added some $20 fee on top of the $491 we had already paid. So we spent 2 nights instead of 3 for $500. And the room was TINY. Bathroom door very squeaky so I had to position it in a way I could get in and sit on the toilet in the night without waking up my husband. It was difficult. The shower is only warm if you turn the hot on all the way with no cold at all. Rooms have regular keys and face the outside so very insecure. And the guy keeps your CC info on a handwritten card with the full number. It’s in the front office and he doesn’t stay in there so anyone could walk in and take them. Would never stay again.

Unique and comfy
Loved this unique motel. Check in was very fast and easy. Gentleman was helpful with ice and recommendations for dinner. Great place right across the street. Room was small but very clean and extremely comfortable. Will absolutely stay again.

What more do you need after a day of hiking in the Black Hills? A clean room and a comfortable bed. Probably one of the best kept, cleanest rooms I've stayed in. I love the nostalgia theme and reminiscing about vacations from years past. The owner was very nice, gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner (brewery across the street), and the room was clean and comfortable. Sure, there was no breakfast but then if there was, I would have missed the best scones and chai tea at Miners Cup. If I make it back to Custer, I would definitely stay at the Rocket motel again.

Great hotel, owner was very accommodating. Had place to wash my bike and towels for drying. Room was very clean and they had nice sheets and towels. Would highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Pros:Cute, property maintained, pleasant greeting, plenty of hot water, great water pressure, microwave, and refrigerator. Cons:tile counters at angles and height that i couldn't seem to avoid with my elbows. Bed platform hidden well with bedding with corners that protrude beyond mattress that I hit my legs on. Three beds in the tiny room, this could be a plus for some travelers. Coffe not available until 7am and room didnt have a coffee maker.

The owner greeted us warmly, provided our key promptly, and gave us needed information to connect to wifi. The room was very clean and up-to-date (very cute) and the wifi was excellent. The facility is close to downtown so walking to the local shops and restaurant was great.

bait and switch
this property charged me extra for using a credit card, even though Hotels.com says they do not accept cash. no reference to this on the site. Lady said it was not updated, still not. small room, slippery tub, cute retro. would not stay again. not much in custer.

I'm sorry for your issue with the credit card fee. We do except cash as there is a 4% credit card processing fee. Being a small motel we can not absorb the credit card processing fees any longer. It is posted on the main entrance door and at the counter where you check in. So if you pay cash you save the 4%. Truly sorry for your bad experience. God bless, Don and Brenda

Cute motel. Rooms are small but the cleanest I have ever been in, the whole place is very well kept up. The gazebo and hot tub were great too. My husband enjoyed the coffee. Easy walk to downtown and The Founding Fathers restaurant was excellent and right across the street, gave you 10% discount with key from motel. That’s right real keys, retro look was great! Managers were friendly and we had a good stay there for our trip to Custer State Park for 2 nights.

A great place to stay!
Everyone was so friendly and the motel itself was very cute, clean, and comfortable. In the lobby they offered unlimited coffee, hot tea and hot chocolate which I thought was a very nice touch. We stayed three nights and highly recommend it!

Great little place. Owner is very welcoming and accommodating. This is a small privately owned property. The shower is very small, the mini fridge doesn’t work the best and the bed is not overly comfy but the cleanliness makes up for those small issues.

I'm so sorry the frig wasn't working properly. Please don't hesitate to let us know. We could have brought you a new one. We have all double pillow top mattresses by serta. Some are firmer than others so we could have tried another room. And yes all the walk in showers are original built in 1950. We've restored them but not possible to change the size, however we do have 6 units with tub and shower combos. Please try us again and we'll do our best to make your stay the best!!
