Beautiful property, wonderful location, and very clean. Overall, it’s a great place to stay when visiting Decorah. Unfortunately, we’re giving it 3 stars due to the lack of communication and follow-through from both the host and VRBO after a significant issue.We stayed two nights, and everything was fine until around 1:00 AM on our second night. After going for a walk, we returned to find the electronic door lock completely dead due to drained batteries. All our belongings were inside, and we had only our cell phones. We tried contacting the host by text and phone without success. We also called VRBO, but they were unable to reach the host either.After sitting outside for about an hour with no solution, we realized that nearby hotels were likely fully booked due to homecoming weekend. Fortunately, we discovered an open window accessible from the low roofline. At 2:00 AM, I ended up climbing onto the roof, removing the window screen, and climbing back into the house. Thankfully, we had left a window open!The host apologized the next morning, and VRBO promised a refund. However, a week after checkout, we’ve been charged the full amount and have received no response from VRBO despite repeated attempts to follow up.The property itself is lovely, but being locked out in the middle of the night and then receiving no follow-through on the promised refund significantly impacted our experience.
