Dorsey Cottage - In una baia tranquilla

Dorsey Cottage è situato in una baia tranquilla che si trova appena fuori dalle famose corsie di vela di Eggemoggin Reach (uno specchio d'acqua largo un miglio che separa l'Isola dei Cervi dalla terraferma). Questa pittoresca insenatura avvolge i due lati della casa e offre viste più estese a nord-est che si affacciano sull'insenatura e alla portata. La casa è arretrata rispetto a Reach Road, con un grande pascolo di fronte alla casa, offrendo un ambiente completamente tranquillo. Arredato semplicemente, l'interno offre un'atmosfera piuttosto modesta e rilassata. La cucina, il soggiorno e la sala da pranzo sono aperti, luminosi e ariosi e tutti guardano alla bellezza naturale circostante. La casa ha due camere da letto, una al piano inferiore (regina) e una al piano superiore (doppia), ognuna con il proprio bagno. C'è anche un futon pieghevole nel soggiorno per dormire aggiunto. Un ponte aperto corre lungo tutto il retro della casa e comprende mobili da giardino. Sia il soggiorno che la camera da letto al piano inferiore hanno porte scorrevoli in vetro che conducono al ponte. C'è un ponte coperto nella parte anteriore della casa con vista sul pascolo. L'ambientazione è un paradiso per bambini da esplorare, ma anche uno scenario sereno per gli adulti dove rilassarsi e distendersi. Lavatrice, asciugatrice, TV avrà una connessione via cavo o satellitare, videoregistratore, DVD.

Great spot

A charming cottage on a tidal cove. Quiet, cozy, and relaxing. A great place to stay and explore Deer Isle, and environs, or just hang out and enjoy the view.

Pleasing and relaxing!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful natural setting. Visitors included foxes, deer and a pair of blue herons. Beautiful view...very private and relaxing spot.

Lovely home and location; TLC needed

This home is listed at 864 sq ft but felt much larger due to the open floor plan and huge windows and sliders. It had everything we needed for cooking, sleeping and relaxing. Great decor, too, with nice antiques and photos. Beautiful views and privacy were exactly as described. I wish that the cleaners took their time to look the home over--cobwebs in the bedroom, dirty windows to look at the ocean through, and the door and walls in the bathroom had runs of brown down them. We are early in the season, so obviously a spring cleaning wasn't done.Finally, the footer holding up the sliding doors is rotting out at both corners, and from the inside you can see that if work isn't done soon, they'll lose the door and both huge windows. there's a similar issue with the upstairs bedroom window--rot eating away the frame. Also, wasp/hornets are nesting under the eaves just above the outside deck... We loved the charm of the home, and the location, and would absolutely return--we're just hoping things are taken care of so that we can go back.

Great location. BUT. House was not clean. Dust balls on ceiling over our heads. Dust under couch. Food bits in drawers. All drains very very slow. Two small towels, one thin washcloth, one small hand towel that was it. No lamps in living room.Every drawer and shelf filled with owner food and stuff. No place to put any of our things. Closet crammed with bedding and stuff. No room to hang clothes. (Had to use coat closet), also pretty full. On last day a ‘tenant’ arrived, had gone into the house, standing outside angrily when we pulled up, said they had rented the house. Very awkward, a bit scary. All in all the house was really pretty bad. But the location was really nice and we had great weather. It’s just about respect. Take some time and fix the plumbing. Move some of the piles of things that are everywhere. Make it more like a nice hotel. Give us a bunch of clean white towels!

Stellar location - house needs work

Location is fabulous and the house has potential to be charming but issues need to be dealt with: - strong mold/mildew odor in house - moldy and torn curtains in bedroom - windows that have screens need new screens so gnats don't take over - windows that don't have screens need screens so there is airflow in the house - sliding screen door needs new screen (current one is torn and therefore unusable) - provide satellite/cable TV as represented in the listing. Currently only subscription service by the renter is available and if you don't have a subscription service (we did not) then the TV is unusable for standard 'free' channels such as ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS. This needs to be resolved. - home could use refreshed or new linens as the current ones are threadbare. - home needs a thorough cleaning, shows signs of neglect right now.

Stunning and cosy on Deer Isle

Lovely location. House has everything you need though could use a plastic wash basin for dishes, grate for fireplace. and some attention to both bathtubs. These are minor. Would be eager to come back, as would my dogs who loved every minute.

Quiet Getaway

This was our second time visiting this property. What a wonderful place to stay for a few days! Such a peaceful setting to just read and laze around..No need to venture out much, since lots closed this time of year. All the more reason to just enjoy the surroundings!

Perfect Retreat!

Looking forward to renting next year. Only one recommendation- install stair railing to second floor. We are still mobile and healthy but a hand rail on stairs is a simple safety assist for all ages. Cheers

Perfect Get-A-Way

Dorsey Cottage was perfect in so many ways. Location was excellent, loved a glass of wine on the deck. What a view, that included sunrises and sunsets. Roomy for four people, yet cozy. Most certainly is a vacation spot, I would recommend.

Unbeatable views!

Amazing, incredible views of the bay and a little cove! We spent quite a bit of time watching the tide go in and out of the cove throughout the day and the birds hanging out on the sandbar! Very quiet area and cottage was clean and in good condition. Lots of local books to look at in the cottage. Beds were comfortable, but I wish there was a dresser or cabinet to put your clothes into!

Tranquil Getaway

We had the most wonderful time at Dorsey Cottage. The weather was far from perfect, yet it still was such a beautiful setting. The view from the living room is so lovely that even though we had a few days of rain, the setting made it so you didn’t feel the need to venture out. Cannot say enough about the accommodations..our first VRBO stay and would love to return!

A perfect country coveside cottage

A little out of the way, but with a nice view of the tides. We loved the fireplace, tea, and the board games. The whole house, especially the kitchen was very well outfitted. A Great place to call home.

Brooklin Magic

The property was given to me as an alternative to another property I had reserved that was overbooked. It was far better than the pictures present it as and a calm and private little slice of tranquility on the Eggemoggin Reach. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

Relax at millpond

We enjoyed our week at Dorsey Cottage very much- perfect location to relax at the property, go swimming at high tide or for a walk at low tide. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room with great views. Good location to explore Deer Island. We would love to come back

Traditional Maine Getaway

Dorsey Cottage is what you imagine to be the old-school, traditional family vacation in Maine. Quiet, peaceful, isolated. It is an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. We could launch kayaks into the cove and bay within feet of the cottage, and we could walk for hours on the tidal flats at low tide. The views and cottage are better in person than in the listing pics.

My stay way magical. I saw deer, fox, mischievous blue jays, I was scolded by grey and red squirrels, and three times was lucky enough to see a juvenile Bald Eagle follow the coast to the river and start his flight inland. I was able to rest and recharge and heal and contemplate. You do feel very much alone - the only neighbors far enough away not to see through the copse. There are plenty of hunters around - so if you’re here in the fall be sure to bring your orange. And try not to sing at the top of your lungs. Apparently it bothers the hunters - and to all of them - I apologize! A truly magical vacation. Thank you for the gift of the stay.

Beautiful Location and View

Our family of four stayed at the Dorsey Cottage for a week. We found the location stunning and enjoyed the birds, kayaking, and watching the tides. The cottage itself was quaint and had charm - but did have an odor - possibly from pets. While we had everything we needed for a pleasurable stay - the cottage could definitely use some decorative updates and a deep clean. Overall, our family made some very special memories and we would recommend this cottage.
