Walk up famous Bulbarrow Hill, 6 miles away, to enjoy the astounding views. Drive 8 miles to Cerne Abbas to see the historic white chalk giant. Venture into Dorchester to shop, dine out, and explore the National Trust’s Hardy’s House, Max Gate, where the renowned author of Tess of the d’Urbervilles lived. Pack a picnic and head 16.5 miles to the limestone arch of Durdle Door on the picturesque Isle of Purbeck. Spend time on the coast here, snorkelling and swimming in the clear waters.

Wander inside via the lobby, where you can kick off your walking boots or wellies. Make your way into the inviting lounge to savour the peaceful ambience and comfortable seating. Light the wood burner in the inglenook fireplace during the colder months so it throws its cosy heat across the room. Leaf through one of the coffee table books or organise a family game. Find your favourite show on TV or make plans for the following day’s adventures. When everyone starts thinking about the next meal, amble through to the sunny kitchen/diner to whip up a few treats. Pull back the bi-folding doors in here so you can look out towards the beautiful wildflower bank, where poppies and cornflowers bloom in season, as you dine together. Also downstairs are a useful utility room and WC. When you are ready to rest your head for the night, climb the stairs to the first floor of the cottage. Here, you have a sumptuous super-king-size and twin bedroom, both with soft bedding and scenic views. The twin can be made into a super-king-size on request. The family bathroom, with both a bath and a shower, is also here.
