Well appointed, generous size and comfortable clean room, well serviced. Excellent helpful and friendly staff. Good food - great choice at breakfast and tasty evening bar food. Well located with easy access to the gorgeous Downings beach next to hotel.

Great hotel close to the beach.
This beautiful hotel has a wonderful location close to the beach and the rooms are lovely. The brilliant bar had very friendly staff and served great food. The full Irish breakfast was great so we highly recommend this super hotel in a great location.

Static caravans ruin the views
The hotel and staff were nice enough but the location was awful. I wrongly assumed that given its location and the beach photos on its website there would be beautiful views of the bay but didn’t do my homework properly. Check out Google maps but on satellite view to see the clutter of static caravans completely dominating the best part of Downings and covering the entire length of the bay right up to the boundary of the hotel car park ☹️

A true gem!
We stayed for one night and it happened to be the last night of the season. We were met with a friendly receptionist. We had dinner in the bar and it was one of the nicest meals I’ve had in Ireland in the last 2 years! Great service, varied menu, lots of vegetarian options, absolutely delicious food. The room was spacious and a lovely comfortable bed. Breakfast was a buffet style served to you. Again this was delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel. I didn’t use any of the leisure facilities to comment.

Great place
The hotel is not fancy, but very comfortable and clean and super well positioned just next to the beach. Our biggest surprise was their amazing (and really cheap) dinner, which we enjoyed a lot!

Nice hotel, great location, food good. Staff at breakfast were so unhappy looking and weren’t sure about what they were doing. Staff on desk and bar really friendly.

Great spot for short family break
Excellent price for family room inclusive of breakfast. Dinner in the bar was 3 courses and a glass of wine for 17.50 euro. Food was lovely and was a nice atmosphere. We used the swimming pool and the soft play area that was free to guests which was a 2 minute drive from the hotel. That was the only negative as we didnt bring extra towels for the next day and also the pool didnt open until 12 noon. Right beside the beach and a short stroll to a lovely traditional pub. I would go back again

One night stay in Downings Bay Hotel. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great (Storm Ciara) but the hotel was lovely and warm, we watched rugby in the bar in the afternoon (drinks reasonably priced) and then had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Bar menu also available. Rooms very clean, have hairdryer, kettle, tea facilities etc, and bathroom with shower over bath. Would return to this hotel if I was in the area again. Good price (we paid 67 sterling for one night B&B). Cooked breakfast was excellent, with juice, toast, croissants, tea and coffee.

Nothing special
This hotel was okay, nothing special. The bed was so so, not terrible but not super comfortable either, the pillows are quite flat. Breakfast was a bit disappointing - all the fruit was out of a tin and nothing seemed very fresh. The hot food to order came out ok but it didn't have much flavor. It wasn't a bad stay overall, just was expecting better given the price and the food reviews.

Loved everything about Downings Bay Hotel, lovely friendly service, lovely clean room, lovely wee bar and delicious breakfast (best fry I've ever had) gorgeous location with the cleanest beach I've ever seen. There was a fault with the water temperature in our room which we didn't notice until quite late in the evening, this was quickly resolved by being given the use of a room opposite ours for a bath/shower. This is the only reason I scored down to 'pleasing' for 'condition and facilities' because otherwise everything was absolutely perfect and we hope to return.

I advised receptionist before gping for breakfast that I had slipped and fallen in the bath the previous night and hurt nyself. I nentioned my fall as i hurt myself and wanted to prevent a simolar occurrence with someone else. Receptionist said i should have asked for a bath mat.

Outstanding hospitality, friendly ,welcoming and efficient staff at this hotel. Homely atmosphere yet with all mod cons and spotlessly clean .Room was very spacious with good bed but warm and comfortable .Food was excellent , great entertainment ,and fantastic seaside location . My room had the more traditional shower in the bath , no shaving point and smaller tv, but these are only minor points considering all the positives . My stay was nice and peaceful in November but may be busier in peak season .Very little traffic noise etc and would definitely be my first choice if visiting the area again, and would recommend highly.

Upon check in the receptionist provided us with our room cards, didn’t give us any information regarding breakfast times etc. Paid upon arrival no receipt given. Bed hard & pillows uncomfortable. We had been advised prior to booking that our room would be on the side of the hotel with nightclub etc however they rarely had any complaints regarding noise so we accepted. Extreme levels of noise on the Saturday night until after 3:30am with the nightclub & people leaving & hanging around in the car park. Doors banging & loud music from the wee bar on the Sunday night. Hotel was understandably busy however no tables in the bar or restaurant available. Bins emptied at the back early morning. Hairdryer in the room very poor.

Thank you taking the time to post your comments on your recent stay. We are disappointed that you didn’t leave us having had an enjoyable stay and would like to address some of the issues you raised. Regarding check-in, we do try to give as much information as possible at check-in as well as providing a sheet attached to the key cards which also gives this information to refer to throughout your stay, we apologise if you felt your were not given adequate information. Regarding the noise you experienced. As this review was posted anonymously, it’s difficult for us to know specifically when you stayed or in which room you were allocated but, as you acknowledged, it was a busy time in the hotel. On making the reservation, as is normal practice, you were contacted in advance to advise that your room may be affected by noise and given the option of free cancellation if this could be an issue. We‘re again, sorry, that the noise levels you experienced were unacceptable for you. Regarding the availability of tables. Both the bar and restaurant do get particularly busy but as long as we are made aware prior to the evening’s service that guests wish to eat in the hotel, we will always ensure a table is reserved despite how busy the hotel is. We are consistently complemented on our hotel, our exceptional staff who always go above and beyond to make our guests stay memorable and how comfortable and well appointed our rooms are. As a family run establishment, we take pride in our hotel and the service we provide, it is most disappointing to receive a negative review and we are sorry that you left us unhappy on this occasion.
