Wonderful stay for the price. Kids loved the water park. It was a $5 day for those not staying at the hotel..so it was packed, but not overly crazy. This was a Thursday evening. Elevator wait time was super long, which was annoying. You stopped every floor with a full elevator so never felt like you were getting where you needed to go. Free breakfast was super nice but very little seating for the amount of people that were there on a weekday. The line to get food got ridiculous the last hour it was open, people were waiting in line for a really long time. There are a lot of ways this process could be run more efficiently. We had considered staying an additional night, however when we realized how much busier the weekend was looking to be we didn’t want to deal with even worse wait times in pool/elevators/food. Highly recommend on a slower night though!

Summary: Won’t be back and I highly recommend you give it a miss on a $5 day (if the waterpark is open- make sure to check their calendar on their website). Good: Our room was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was great. Bad: The waterpark itself is in dire need of updating (their social media says this will happen in fall 2026). It also seems that like the amenities are severely undersized- there were 50+ people waiting in line at breakfast, nowhere to sit, the lobby was packed as soon as we walked in. When we went to the waterpark, there were far too many people. The hot tubs were packed and often times had nowhere to sit, kids were waiting in line for a raft to go down the slide to then go wait in a line with 25 kids to go down the slide for 10 seconds. The lazy river was packed with tubes and kids walking. The line to go down the slide where the bucket is took 10 minutes to get through. We went to the waterpark for an hour, debated leaving the hotel, and left in the morning.

I had a very disappointing stay at Grand Harbor Resort. I was moved to three different rooms within the first 12 hours of my stay due to the heat not working in my first room. I was told I would not be charged for my first night, but at checkout, the hotel refused to make it right and I was charged the full amount. After returning home, It was almost impossible to speak to a live person when I called and they again refused to do anything to make my experience right. I will not be staying at this hotel again.

Our room was very clean and had lots of tv channels. Staff were friendly. Hot breakfast was good and staff quickly replaced empty items. The waterpark is smaller and good for kids under 12. There are a couple days of things for families to do within 20 minutes - river museum, incline elevator, caves and Galena, Illinois. We were there on 5 dollar public entry day and the wait for an inner tube for the waterslide was too long. This was not an issue the last time we were there on a regular day.

Loved our visit, pool floor has been resurfaced and feels nicer. Lifeguards are well staffed and actually use their wissles. Breakfast seating is always an issue but delicious, we ate in our room. Some stains/ wall wiping could be done but overall bug and debris free room. We will be back some day, keep up the good work!

My family and I went for 2 days and one night, absolutely do not pay to stay at this place during a $5 waterpark entry day, we couldn’t use the waterpark at all, the elevators had insane lines and our rooms were on the 6th and 7th floors. Then we woke up to get breakfast and the line again was insane, we had to stand and eat outside of the eating area because the amenities were so small. The stay was so bad that after our awful breakfast experience we decided to leave rather then wait for the waterpark to open, then to read on Facebook that not even a hour after it opened they had closed down admission due to reaching capacity. I hope doing that pays off to act like the waterpark is for the town and not the people that are paying full price to stay and use the things people are getting to use for $5.

The room itself was okay. Very outdated though and the curtains could use a wash or two. I didn’t want to touch them. The bed was comfortable and clean which was good. The hotel could use some updating and fresh paint. It was way overcrowded. You couldn’t get a luggage rack. You had to wait forever to get on an elevator. You couldn’t even sit down in the waterpark or get a tube to go down the slides. We also couldn’t get breakfast the next morning because there were SO many people. It also was so noisy. The walls are paper thin. We could hear full conversations from the room next to us. We will not be staying here again.

Breakfast was basic but ok and the worst part was the fire alarm went off at 1am and everyone had to wake up and evacuate out into the cold only for them to not know what caused it and a oh sorry about that. I get you can’t compensate every room but I mean cmon you’re there on a little family vacation with the kids and then that happens and makes the rest of the stay miserable in my opinion

Waterpark was closed, so that was a bummer and not advertised on Expedia. But the main concern, was the fire alarm went off at 3am and the entire hotel had to evacuate. There was something wrong with the alarm in my room, as it emitted a typical loud fire alarm sound-but for some reason, it also emitted an extremely high pitch sound that was the loudest thing i have ever heard in my life. As I write this the next day, my ears are still ringing horribly. The sound of the alarm after 5 mins of trying to frantically get out of the building while cupping my ears in my room, likely has done permanent damage to my hearing in some Level. I mentioned it to the front desk the next day and told Then that if a baby or child was in that room, it could have serious permanent hearing loss. They gave a “sorry, we will get someone to check it out. Take care.” I come to Dubuque often, but will not Come back here -only because of the damage to my ringing ears.

We booked this because of a dance competition. We purposely purchased Friday - Monday so that my kids could go the Waterpark on Monday their only day free after the long weekend of competing. Nothing said it’d be closed in fact we received a paper at check in saying it was open. Only to find out it was closed at 4pm Sunday and not open at all during the week. What is the point of a waterpark hotel if you’re not even open? The rooms were very mediocre and were not very clean. The hotel has so much potential if only they tried a bit harder. What a bummer!

The room was very drafty. Air was leaking from where the AC/heater was mounted through the outside wall. The 1am fire alarm was a nice touch. One of the beds was all wonky and falling off the frame. The water park was a tetanus hazard waiting to happen. I’ve never seen so much rust! One of the pool areas was closed. For the price, a trip to Wisconsin Dells would be a better idea. The breakfast was meh.

Not what I expected. Run down resort that needs a lot of upgrades. Tony Roma's the restaurant was good. The staff was friendly and helpful, but pretty much everything else needs attention.

The gym has all the heavy weights 35 lbs and up 1 5 lb and 1 20 lb?? The waterpark is only open on the weekends if i wouldve known this i wouldn't have booked it during the week this needs to be told to other travelers as others during my stay complaining about this. The bfast didnt have waffles nor several options. Went somewhere else due to this. There is also no treadmill in gym

The hotel is a little outdated but still clean and comfortable. Every staff member we encountered was amazing! Friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The arcade needs some work with half the games out but the pool and all its features were awesome and they had a cool kids zone full of activities. Overall it was a great stay and we would definitely go again!
