“The hotel it's small but super clean and well done. The staff is super helpful and friendly. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom huge. The only thing is that is on a quiet neighborhood so it's like 20 minute walk to the canal and Nishiki market but still centric enough. Also, the futon sounds like a good idea until the second night and your hips are dying...just saying. It's not as easy as you think if you are 35 or older...”

“Lovely stay at ryokan. Probably the biggest building around the area, not much going on outside and hard to navigate unless you are a local or speak japanese. Some staff speak english but google translate will be your best friend. Definitly book the rooms with private onsen, magical experience. ”

And we ended up in nearby underground jazz bar Zac Baran twice, as well as a tiny local restaurant about 15 minutes walk west, same side of street as hotel, called kawahigashi (it also says 'food and beverage' in English outside). We were the only people on a weeknight, with a single chef/server doing everything, and the food was...
