Cosy hotel with high standards
We were so happy about it that we extended our stay. Superb garden and rooms and we felt extremely looked after by the hotel staff at any level. Excellent food and wine selection. We highly recomend it, surely the best in the "Friendly City" Freberto & Laura

Great short stay in central Walmer
Nice comfortable one night stay in the heart of Port Elizabeth. Well located in central Walmer close to the best coffee shops and dining options. Service and welcome was fantastic and service throughout exceptionally good from all staff members. Feel the furnishings are dated and need some upgrading, appreciate that the style is Victorian however I feel that some of the general areas need upgrading. The rooms were extremely large and well equipped.

Excellent staff! Great area. Food was amazing. Room was very nice and spacious… be advised that everything is colonial and vintage, if your style is modern you might not enjoy this. We loved it and would go back in a minute! Parking is a little tight but that’s not even a reason to frown… A++

You’re in for a treat….
A lovely reminder of home. This cosy country house was the perfect stay in Port Elizabeth. Beautiful decor, excellent service and delicious food. Also enjoyed a game of tennis and sitting by the pool with a book and glass of wine. Nothing too much trouble and appreciated the little touches such as a packed breakfast before we went out on a trip.

Desde a chegada ao hotel, fomos surpreendidos pela recepção e atenção que nos foi dispensada. O Sr. Winton é um funcionário diferenciado, tendo sido extremamente atencioso, demonstrando cuidado nos detalhes da hospedagem no Hacklewood. A estrutura é antiga, com uma decoração aderente ao perfil e à idade do imóvel, tudo com um excelente bom gosto. Localizado a uma pequena distância do aeroporto, o hotel fica distante da região de praia de Port Elizabeth, o que deve ser levado em consideração se o objetivo é curtir a cidade. De qualquer maneira, a experiência de hospedagem no hotel, com um atendimento requintado e sofisticado, deve ser levado em consideração a favor do hotel. Sem dúvida voltaria ao hotel.

Old world luxury with excellent service
In PE on business. Needed accommodation unexpectedly. Called last minute and was received extremely well. Spent a restful night after a hectic day on site in spacious, quiet surroundings. Early breakfast was willingly organised so that I could start the day on time. Would not hesitate to stay her again.

Außerordentlich gutes, ausgezeichnetes Essen! Die Köchin bezaubert, die weinauswahl ist gut, es wird ein sehr guter Riesling angeboten. Da bleibt kein Wunsch offen. Das Haus ist old England style, charmante Gastgeber und perfekter, hilfreicher Service.

An exceptional stay! From the warm welcome, luxurious bedroom and en-suite, to the outstanding three course dinner - and my "most-appreciated": a hot water bottle tucked into my bed after a long day... I would highly recommend Hacklewood Hill!

Arriving at the electric wooden car gate you wouldn't have a clue what is behind it. As the door opens you are greeted with a park like setting .... beautiful. The rooms are quite large and a gorgoues Victorian tub awaits you in a well appointed bathroom. We normally put our bags down and head out to explore the town (we only had one night here) but this place was so inviting we just stayed on the property. All staff offered fabulous service- happy, kind and attentive. We had one of our best dinners here. our waiter was fantastic and the food was spectacular- no rush to go anywhere. The breakfast I would also say was 5 stars. lots of yummy choices which was a surprise in a small establishment. We left after spending 14 hours here refreshed and ready to continue our journey. As far as Port Elizabeth is concerned, the people are very friendly and welcoming, but the city isn't very exciting. The main road along the ocean needs some warming up . We walked through the board walk and the place seemed like a ghost town maybe we just missed the rush. Richmond Hill had quite a few high end restaurants that looked very inviting. I would check that out if you are there for an evening.

Très belle adresse à Port Elizabeth
Dans un quartier coquet mais un peu excentré, cette pension discrète offre de très belles et immenses chambres avec de somptueuses salles de bains. Petit bémol, nous sommes restés un bon moment en rade au portail d'entrée, l'interphone ne fonctionnant pas. De l'eau et du sherry ainsi que des fruits secs avaient aimablement été disposés dans les chambres. Nous avons très bien mangé au restaurant de l'hôtel, qui est ouvert à tous. Excellent petit déjeuner et cadre fantastique.

Historic hotel.
Beautiful historic hotel. We felt pampered by friendly staff. Everything was immaculate (though tennis courts could use resurfacing). Food was amazing. We had a lovely stay!

None better in PE
It may be the most expensive property in PE but it is worth every cent! Most notable is their 5 star service. Tiffany was a great hostess who's concern and care for her guests was so nurturing. Don't miss their tasting menu which was THE best value for the quality that I have experienced anywhere in the world.

ein ruhiger Ort
Sobald sich das Hoftor geschlossen hat ist man in einer kleinen Zeitreise in koloniale Zeiten. Ein ruhiger Garten und sehr freundliches fast schon übereifriges Personal ist stets um einen bemüht. Die Zimmer sind nun ja "kolonial" eingerichtet aber doch recht stimmig und vor allem gross mit fast schon überdimensionierten Badeszimmern, grossen Betten und jeweils kleiner Veranda. Dem alten Haus geschuldet ist eine gewisse Ringhörigkeit, die aber nicht weiter stört. Instalationen sind ein wenig "afrikanisch" es mag mal da und dort klappern aber das mit Charme. Wir hatten eine entspannte Nacht vor dem Rückflug und können die Unterkunft gut weiterempfehlen.

The staff was very courteous and helpful. The food was excellent. Unfortunately, we requested a referral for a hotel the next night in Mossel Bay, but instead were provided reservations for us at a hotel nearer to Cape Town - some 300 km further. We did not realize the problem until arrival in Mossel Bay where we were forced to hunt for lodging.

If you're looking for luxury
This hotel is sheer luxury. Huge rooms - huge bathroom, large enough for a sofa as well as a free standing bath and huge wardrobe. Lovely old furniture tastefully chosen and updated gives the hotel the feel of an English country house. And the food is truly amazing. The best risotto I can remember! And free wi-fi too.
