Welcome to Bluebird Retreat. A cozy cabin in the heart of the Black Hills just out of Hill City. Located in the popular High Country Ranch. Enjoy the Mickelson Trail right out your front door. Main attractions close by including Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise and views. Enjoy sitting by the bonfire watching wildlife in the evenings.

It was okay

It was clean and ready for our stay but when we walked in, it was like being in a sauna.It was very hot outside and the window ac couldn't cool it. We had to run to town to by fans and wait for nighttime to get enough cool air inside to make it comfortable to sleep. The fridge/freezer needed updated as it was old and hard to keep food cold. The chairs and picnic table outside needed replaced as they were worn out and broken/damaged.

Family Trip

Perfect for our trip…2 adults and a 12 year old traveling with our dogs. Stayed during the week so surrounding area was quiet. Great location, spent days in Custer state park and The Badlands. Thank you!

Great location! Great stay!

My husband and I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at Bluebird Retreat and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was quiet, well stocked and just a short drive into Hill City. Its location makes it convenient for getting to many of the local attractions. The property manager is so responsive and timely in our communication with her. Thank you Michelle. We would definitely stay here again

Quiet and great location

The location is great. Just a short 4-5 mile drive to Hill City. The cabin was clean and the easy to unlock the door when we arrived. It was a hot day and the cabin was a bit warmer than I liked. It was cool enough by bedtime to sleep comfortable, but I feel the A/C should have been started earlier in the day. There were weeds around the front porch and for me, this takes away from the appearance of the cabin. Pulling or cutting the weeds would have improved the looks. I am mildly disappointed when I find things that don't work. I found a window that wouldn't open and probably not a big deal. But the cabin had very few windows you could open and when I was trying to cool the cabin down it would have been nice to open all the windows. Also most cabins have a couple of soft blankets to use for front porch sitting. We found one blanket intended for use on the bed, but we used outside anyway. I realize these are minor things, and don't ruin the stay. But the details to me, and the attention to details make the stay better. One thing in the positive that I appreciated very much was there was no requirement to clean and sweep the floor, take the bed apart or even take out the trash. I did take out the trash because I feel it is the right thing to do. The only chore we had was to wash the dishes which we did. If I return to the area I would consider staying here again.

Beautiful Getaway

We rented Bluebird for a wedding the whole family was in. We were 7 minutes from town and about 13 to the wedding events venue. The cabin was perfect for a family with the open concept balcony bedroom. We found everything we needed for our stay. The scenery was beautiful and peaceful. You are far enough from neighbors for privacy. The small balcony off the loft area was perfect for the teens to star gaze at night. There was enough space inside and out for the kids to play without busy roads nearby. The cabin was clean and the host responded to messages instantly. They even mailed us some belongings left behind from our stay! Great experience!

Bluebird Retreat R&R Perfect!

The Bluebird Retreat is in a delightful location amongst other vacation cabins but with spacing that affords privacy and uninhibited views of the small valley through which a classic babbling brook runs. It is the perfect size cabin for a party of 4-6 (3 queen beds), with a nice design, and, dovetailing nicely with my tastes, not to fancy and not too simple. Particularly enjoyed the porch in the early mornings and the firepit in the evenings.

Just what we needed

Perfect place to relax and unwind. Peaceful nights by the campfire listening to the creek flow and horses run was just what my little grieving family needed. We aren’t into the tourist attractions but felt like everything was in arms reach should the mood strike. Great location to town & trails. The cabin was very comfortable & it was easy to accommodate our dog. I recommend bringing your own games & DVD’s for those rainy days. We got lucky and only had one but the cabin only contained a deck of uno cards. While we easily made it just fine without, extra things to do inside would have made it more enjoyable. Thanks Bluebird Cabin!
