This was my first experience at Des Arts Sai Gon, and while it’s rated as a 5-star hotel, I didn’t feel it lived up to that standard. The service overall was fine, but I noticed a couple of front desk staff were not as friendly as I expected.
One night, a friend visited me in Saigon. She was quite drunk, so for her safety, I asked if she could rest in my room until she felt better to drive home. She was dressed casually, not in fancy attire. When we returned to the hotel, the girl at the front desk gave us uncomfortable looks. I explained that she was my guest and might stay for a couple of hours, and I was willing to pay any extra charge if needed. However, the girl at the front desk told me my room was only for two people and that I’d need to rent another room if she stayed. This was unreasonable for just a short rest for safety, so I ended up calling a car to take her home.
What truly made me write this review was the next day when my friend came back to pick up her car and me. As we walked in, one of the front desk staff gave us a side eye look, which felt very unprofessional for a supposed 5 star hotel. I didn’t feel welcome during my stay. I had expected a good experience given the room price, but instead, my friend and I felt judged and looked down upon.
If you want a truly welcoming hotel with great service, location, and food, I would not recommend this one especially since the front desk seems more focused on appearances than making guests feel genuinely valued.
