I've had unacceptable experiences during my last two stays at the Courtyard Marriott in Newburgh, New York.
During my first stay over the Christmas weekend, the hotel had no heat or hot water. Despite calling an hour before check-in to notify the staff I was running late, the manager failed to inform me of these conditions. When I requested a reimbursement for these circumstances, the hotel refused, and I was forced to resolve the matter through my bank.

“1. Three hours in, the fuse tripped, and we had no electricity for the entire night. No heating when it was 25 F outside, no light, no ability to charge phones. No one answered our phone calls and email until noon the next day. They're lucky we didn't take legal action.
2. This is not a hotel. There is no reception to check in, you just enter pin numbers to the building and room.
3. Apartment was clean but the building was in disrepair. The stench of smoke was really bad. The stairs and entry...

“Upon arrival there was no one at the desk, I waited for 15 minutes, had to call the hotel to get someone to come to the desk. The lobby smelled terrible, hotel is dated, breakfast area had only packaged muffins and snack bars. Coffee was empty , had to ask for coffee to be made. We were there just for an overnight, you get what you pay for!”

“What a wonderful experience staying at the Borland House is! With the quaint, homey feeling of the whole house, to the kindness of the staff. Your stay will absolutely be lovely. Ample towels are provided for the private, spacious bathroom. Very comfortable bedding and well appointed decorations are in the bedroom. I was in the Hummingbird Suite.
