A little piece of paradise
We had a wonderfully peaceful holiday at Glen cottage, which was a pleasure to stay in & all arrangements/communications with the owners were straightforward & prompt: check in & property info was sent to us well before our trip, which was greatly appreciated as we had a 2 day journey to get there! Also we were greeted by a huge variety of drinks (kindly put out for us) including alcoholic & decaf tea - both favourites. The surrounding area is just amazing, perfect for anyone wanting to 'get away from it all' & experience some natural beauty. A big thank you Evelyn.

A Wonderful Week
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage in Croir. Our children loved the garden. We loved the view of the sea. On our first day we saw a pair of golden eagles hovering above the garden. The cottage felt welcoming. It was well equipped and tastefully furnished. We enjoyed reading books about the local history.

A Perfect Home from Home
A beautifully appointed house, very spacious but cosy. Excellent facilities too with internet, TV, DVD's and games for the rainy days. The upstairs lounge was a great place to relax with a stunning view to the sea and the islands beyond. We highly recommend Glen Cottage for any group or family looking for a rural escape.

Perfect Place to be!
It‘s a lovely house with an amazing quietness. You can hear some animals, the wind and only sometimes you hear something man made like a car or a ship. It’s extremely remote, therefore you can’t just go around the corner to buy some stuff or go to a restaurant, but we have been looking for exactly such a location, including the rough and beautiful landscapes and it was perfect for us. Thank you Evelyn for sharing your house with us!

Beautiful home in a great location. Exceptional Hosts
This cottage was our home for 2 weeks and was used as a base to explore the Isle of Lewis and Harris. Convenient to all major attractions and an easy commute to Stonaway Evelyn and Graeme were excellent hosts who were very quick to respond when required. The cottage is well equipped and very clean. Excellent cottage, lovely location
We had a great week in the cottage, it was very well equipped and in a very quiet and peaceful location with stunning views to the sea and islands. The cottage was very spacious and the bedroom we chose downstairs was so comfortable, would definitely visit again and would recommend this also. We had good weather and went to most places of interest, especially Luskentyre beach which was stunning and well worth the drive.

Most wonderful Christmas
My family and I spent a most wonderful Christmas at Glen Cottage. It was our first time on Lewis, it it certainly won’t be the last! Evelyn and Graeme surprised us with some lovely Christmas decorations, a most generous hamper and beautiful handwritten card. The house (especially the kitchen) was well equipped, we didn’t miss anything! Everything was clean, the house itself very spacious and offered stunning views from every window. Most of all we enjoyed the wood burning stove and spent really cosy evenings in front of the fire. We can’t thank Evelyn and Graeme enough for offering us this opportunity of a perfect holiday.

Getting away from it all
A great location and accommodation for a getaway vacation. The cottage has everything you could ask for. The view from the upstairs lounge is something to behold, and yes, we also saw the eagles. Travelling to and from Stornaway when we needed to was all part of the adventure. We would also recommend Cameron’s chippy in Stornaway. We would not hesitate to visit again. If we are in this part of the world. A few niggles, The microwave needed a good clean ( which we did ), the fridge has seen better days and should be replaced , and mould on the sink in the bathroom should be an easy fix. Overall a good stay.

This property was all you coukd ask for on a isle of pure beauty ! We had the most fantastic time travelling round we saw the golden Eagle on our last day just sat on the rocks infront of the house the beaches were amazing and we were more than lucky weather wise and swam daily ....definitely worth a visit x

Magnifique séjour au calme
La maison est très accueillante, chaleureuse. Située dans un lieu reculé de l’île, au calme, avec une très belle vue. Le panier d’accueil est une attention très appréciée. Penser à faire des courses avant d’arriver cependant. Nous y avons passé une très belle semaine sur une île absolument magnifique. N’hésitez pas.

This is a wonderful house in a very remote but impressive area. Big rooms, nice furniture, great kitchen, dining room and bathrooms. Lovely views from every window. You can feel very comfortable when you don' t want to go out because of the wheather...!

Fantastic house

Glen Cottage, Croir, Isle of Lewis
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Glen Cottage. It was spacious, albeit the upstairs bedroom is very compact and in our opinion only suitable for children. The cottage is fairly well appointed and having both an upstairs and downstairs stairs lounge is a significant attraction. The only downside is that it's location involves quite a lengthy drive to access Stornoway and the main historic attractions on Lewis. Having said that, the cottage was very comfortable and our trip to Lewis and Harris was fantastic allowing us to take home lots of lovely memories.

The House is Perfect
We had a really lovely holiday. The house is just perfect. It's a lovely size for the four of us. It's very clean with all the facilities that we needed and in such a beautiful location. Like a home from home. Special mention for the view from the upstairs living room! Oh and the speedy Wi-Fi! This house has everything AND a killer view.

WOW!
What a fantastic Christmas! Evelyn has been a great host! Christmas tree and hamper on arrival! We feel recharged from our stay. The cottage has everything you need for a truly comfortable stay. The lounge upstairs has a fantastic view, was warm and relaxing! The beaches were to die for and the wildlife was magnificent, otters, red deer and golden eagles close to the cottage! Beautiful home in a fantastic location!

Beautiful house with an amazing location and magical view
We absolutely loved our stay at Evelyn's property on the Isle of Lewis. It was a perfect spot to explore the island with our infant son. The views from the upstairs living room were absolutely fantastic. The house was immaculate when we arrived and the check in process was super simple and easy. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone travelling to the magical Isles of Lewis and Harris.

On the edge of the world
We had a great time getting away from it all. We got to kayak from Bernera to little Bernera with seals and the local beach was great. Saw golden eagles and lots of sheep. The house was a great place to stay. Hopefully post-COVID the village shop will re-open but did discover the shop at Uig which was great (and another excellent beach). Had a lovely time.

Home away from home
Very comfortable cottage with superb views from the upstairs lounge. It’s really big with two living areas and a huge kitchen. The cottage was very well stocked and it was obvious the owner put a lot of thought into making guests feel at home. It’s a bit out of the way but that is part of the charm. Lots of beautiful beaches to explore and stunning scenery in the area. Would definitely stay again. Thank you Evelyn for all your help and advice, it made our stay even better

Wonderful week
Just a wee bit of perfection in the outer Hebrides. Plenty space to find a quiet sunny spot. Excellent communication with owner beforehand. Everything we needed. Do a big shop in Stornaway, find some of the wee artisan shops. We used a brilliant guidebook, Bradt, guide to the Hebrides, up to date and so much info on everything.

Huge spacious with lovely views
Amazing property.. only 2 of us stayed rooms are so huge and and views upstairs are gorgeous... equipped with everything you could possibly want .. we felt at home straight away .. The road to and from has such lovely views 40 mins from Stornoway and large shops but throughout our journey we found lovely local shops that had everything you need .. Bosta beach is only a 5 min car journey away and is such a wonderful beach we had this all to ourselves one day and even went swimming (for 5mins 😁) Overall we came away very happy and relaxed and can’t wait for our next visit thankyou for letting us stay in your beautiful home 🥰

We were looking for a rural property that would accommodate two related families with plenty of space for relaxation. This house fitted the bill. We found the view from the upper lounge entrancing and often watched the sea in the distance until the sun went down.

Fabulous house with the most fantastic views from the upstairs lounge. Property was very well equipped for all our needs. Bosta beach nearby was voted favourite by all and there was a lot of competition but the opportunity to swim with seals here was so good. Beautiful island and will be back again.

Peace perfect peace.
Lovely warm spacious house with a fantastic view from upstairs lounge. Great direction from the host on how to get there. A lovely house to just relax in. A bit of a trek to get to any shops but as long as you are organised with your big shop in Stornaway you will be fine. Would go again.

Beautiful peaceful home that will be in our dreams for a long time.
The setting of this house is idyllic...magical actually. The house itself was also such a wonderful experience . The kitchen was perfectly equipped for cooking meals. Fresh local farm eggs were waiting along with tea, sugar and spices. The home was spacious. Though there was just 2 of us, a group would still feel there was much space and openness with plenty of room including 2 living areas. The upstairs living area is where it is at. You can see off in the distance to the island of Little Bernera and may have a chance of eagles soaring by. We did. There were issues with being unable to shower as the shower did not have hot water no matter how hard we tried. The mix of hot and cold water is way off even if turned all the way hot. It was baths only, which was hard for washing hair. Hopefully, there is a fix for that for future guests. I am biased a bit because of my husband’s ancestors being exactly from this community of Croir just up the road, from the late 1700’s to the mid 1800’s and you can see them written about in the book of information provided for the house. I tried to write this review independent of the emotions of being exactly in our ancestral homeland but to say it was emotional to be in the place of ancestors is an understatement of how we felt. It’s a special, peaceful place with much history.

Perfect escape!
This house is really good value for money, spacious and worked well for a family with two young children, their parents and grandad. Lovely upstairs sitting room with views out to the slip of golden sand on Little Bernera. And the log burner in the downstairs sitting room was nice and cosy! The kids loved scrambling around in the Croft land that belongs to the house (and so did the grown ups!). Bosta beach is beautiful and walking distance along a very quiet road. We loved Uig beach, and the great playground at ness. A great Holiday and Evelyn was very helpful and responsive.

Peace and quiet at the end of the road
Lovely holiday home at (almost) the end of the road. Huge kitchen, two living rooms (the upstairs lounge with sea view and large couch was our favourite), lovely bedrooms and two bathrooms. The house is situated at the far north of Great Bernera, with a lovely beach just a few miles away, a little village at 5 minutes by car, and all of the west coast of Lewis - with its lovely beaches, magnificent cliffs, out of this world sea stacks, magical stone circles, sober blackhouses, and appealing brochs - can be explored from here. Also, Stornoway is just under an hour away. Would love to come back here one day!

Very nice house in wonderful location.
What a lovely place for a holiday. The house is very well equipped and situated in the most beautiful spot on Great Bernera with views to Little Bernera. Bosta Beach is just a short cycle ride away, so is the small shop on the island. The owners have been very helpful indeed and responded very quickly to all our questions. Perfect house, ideal weather!
This was our first visit to Lewis and Glen Cottage proved to be a perfect base for our week of exploration. The house has everything that you need for a very comfortable stay while the view from the upstairs lounge is simply ‘to die for’. There were only the two of us so space was clearly no issue. We chose to use the large bedroom downstairs which had an excellent bed and, given the supberb weather, remained comfortably cool overnight for sleeping. As expected given the location, the water pressure for the shower was not the most powerful but still functioned well enough. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Glen Cottage.

Escape from the crowds
We visited the Isle of Lewis for my birthday and our wedding anniversary and had the most amazing time! Evelyn was an incredible host treating us to a lovely welcome pack in lieu of our double celebration. We experienced excellent communication throughout, nothing was a problem building up to our stay and on arrival. We spoke briefly on the phone the day we set off and she was a joy to chat to; warm and friendly. The house itself, although fairly large, feels very cosy with a wood burning fire downstairs next to the kitchen and central heating throughout. There is plenty of wood for you to use in the shed located alongside the house which was a relief as we forgot to buy some en route and were pleased we hadn't when we arrived and saw the mountains of wood ready to use! As there were only two of us we only made use of the master bedroom, so I can only speak for that particular room when I say the bed was gorgeously comfortable and everything lovely and clean. There is a good stock of music, games and outdoor essentials for walkers and those wanting to try their hand at fishing. The area is very isolated and quiet, despite having three neighbours. There is a pebbled beach at the end of the road you can walk to, but I would recommend either driving the 10 min drive or walking the 45 min path to Bosta Beach - truly our personal favourite on the island. The road to the house (and around the island generally) is narrow and winding so I'd recommend packing ginger beer and travel sickness tablets if you struggle with car sickness as I do...We hope to be back again soon, next time with friends!

Beautiful place
We spent Christmas and New year here and a birthday, even the weather looked after us, Two Adults and five children, can not fault this property, it is the best time we have ever had, so much so we aim to move to the Isle of Lewis. It was the most lovely warm welcome when we walked in, Christmas Tree and decorations all put up for us, a lovely fire ready to light, a very well looked after clean and homely house, with everything and more than you could ever need, beautiful sea views, and clear starry nights, we all had tears in our eyes leaving, Thank you so much, I would return tomorrow, Wayne, Toni and kids :-)

lovely house, well equipped in a quiet location (you need to want to be remote!).
It terms of interesting things to do, mostly you will need to drive. More local is the local beach at Bosta (which is a walk). We fished from the point opposite the house (successfully) and bought lobster, live from the boat at Kirkibost pier. All great! Our only disappointment was the inability to walk freely across fields from the house (other than in one direction on land owned by the house). All the surrounding land is fenced with barbed wire and it is impossible to walk freely.... and clearly people don't want you doing this! That all said the house is very nice, clean and well appointed. Good views from that large windows in the upstairs lounge. All in all we have a very nice week.

Comfortable home at the end of a long journey!
Glen cottage has a wonderful position and the nearby Bosta beach is stunning with interest added by the reconstructed Iron Age house and the modern art installation of the Time and Tide Bell. The Lewis landscape is fascinating and, if you only include one long trip, do NOT miss Luskentyre in South Harris-one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited! The house is exactly as described, nicely furnished and well equipped, with a supply of kitchen basics in the cupboards. Our only problem was being too hot and unable to control the heating. The twin room is quite snug and, being in the eaves, that room got a little too cosy. All the arrangements were handled efficiently and the welcome hamper, including fresh pancakes (drop scones to the English) was delicious. As you explore the island, there are glorious views round every bend and many galleries and craftsmen to visit and all the local people were extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to return soon.
